Hallo Bergen, Norway!
I'll be back in a couple days. It’s quite remarkable that I’m able to type fluently at the moment - I thought that the crowds were quite tame (albeit large) back on Independence Day in Reykjavik. Little did I know that (seemingly) all of Iceland was waiting for last night to party it up. Since I've been staying on one of the main streets (more pedestrian than car traffic), I do expect lots of noise… but an outdoor concert, on the street, in front of the bar (which was diagonal from the hostel) STARTING at 11pm? Oh, and throw in a bunch of soccer fans with blow horns.
Lovely.
Any other night would’ve been cool, but considering I had to catch the airport bus at 5am this morning, I was a little less forgiving lol. One of my dorm-mates was also planning on the 5am bus - we kind of looked at each other like, ‘should we just go down and enjoy it?’ haha. I gave it an hour before giving up and going downstairs for a look. The street was indeed packed with partygoers… I decided to have a beer and go back upstairs to attempt to sleep again. In all the commotion, I had
Patio door
... without a patio? I had to try opening it, curiousity got the best of me - it just opens from the top as a window haha. I was worried there for a minute. the joy of watching a very flamboyant fight outside the gay bar haha. Catfiiiiiight.
Music didn’t stop until about 2:30am. I had to get up at 4:15am haha. I’m a tad groggy.
I got to the airport and perked up a little - I really do enjoy airports… I think I’ve said that before, but it’s worth mentioning again. Keflavik has a nice layout to it, and again, it’s easy to people watch. It’s fun hearing all the different languages as Iceland really is a gateway between Europe and North America.
Bless bless Iceland! I’ll be back again!
Fastforward a few hours and I arrived in Oslo, Noway.
Soooo, sidenote: all the Scandinavian Airline workers I’ve come across are super hot. Just sayin’
Also, apparently I look Scandinavian because I keep getting spoken to in the native languages even with my lovely backpack that screams tourist.
Anyway, I got to my hotel without much fuss. Pretty good considering I’m out in the ‘burbs and really wasn’t sure where I was headed. Originally I was supposed to stay on a boat hotel down in the harbour… but uhm, about 2 weeks ago they got shut down for fire-code violations haha. So instead I ended up here - which is pretty fab and comfy. (Better be for the price. Ugh, Scandinavia - you will drain all my money)
It started to POUR rain about ten minutes after I arrived at the hotel. Considering the weather, plus the fact I was running on about 2hrs sleep I decided to pack it in for the rest of the day and be uber lazy at the hotel - time well spent organizing some final details for my trip, making a list of what I want to see in Oslo tomorrow, and just reading and relaxing as I watch the rain fall.
This is the life.

wait until you get to Sweden
don't know if you plan on seeing Sweden but you have got to check out the toilets at the airport. They are on pedestals.
