I woke up around 6:30/7 today and after eating breakfast, started talking with Katharina and Daniele, who were both working on their computers. It looked a little windy outside, and the weather said it would be even worse out on the water. Around 8 Guido decided he wanted to see what the water was like, so he took the car down to the harbor, and after coming back said we should probably go out even if for just a few hours.
We all suited up quick, hopped in the car, hooked up to the trailer and were off. From the hill above the marina we could see that the waves weren’t too bad. However, dolphins don’t always behave and after being out for a few hours and not seeing any dolphins we decided to head back towards the marina. By that time the wind had picked up quite a bit and we had to slow our speed quite a bit to avoid being soaked. Daniele had let me put the boat in the water this morning, and I didn’t do so well, however he also let me take it out and I did much better. Within the next few weeks
I hope to perfect it quite a bit.
Back at the house, the crew all settled in in front of their computers to get some work done, but I decided to walk along shore from our place into town. First I stopped into the caravan office to ask about different diving packages. If all goes well we will be able to go out this weekend, so I wanted to get as much information about the different packages as possible. They all seem like they will be a good time, but unfortunately the prices are around $200-$400 for just one day.
After getting all the information I headed towards the shore. Its quite a beautiful walk, and most of the way there is a boardwalk. At the beach, I started to look in the sand for shells and found so many different ones everywhere! The surf line wasn’t rock and debris like it is back home, but its small shells, bits of corals and some unlucky little critters.
I followed the board walk all the way to the marine and even stopped at different points to check out some of the scenery. In town it almost reminds be
of being back in Bonaire, tropical resorts line the shore and all the buildings are brightly colored. On my way back I walked down the strip and people watched a bit. Most are backpackers, living out of backpacks or suitcases they drag behind them. Also, most of the shops are geared towards them with “Backpacker Specials” signs on most of the different stoops.
Since we haven’t been having much luck at finding dolphins here in Arlie beach, we are going to head to a different location tomorrow as long as the weather cooperates. It’s about an hour away, so we will have to get up quite early in order to have a full day on the water.
