Things are going well here in the Baja although it continues to be unbelievably and unseasonably windy this year! So my days of kayaking and playing in the sun and surf have been few and far between. But....I have kept busy.

One day last week, I went to Cabo Pulmo to do some snorkeling. Cabo Pulmo is known for its reefs and great snorkeling and scuba diving. It is between Los Barriles and Cabo San Lucas. The plans for the day trip were very spontaneous--my friend Betty and her guests decided to take a drive and at about 7.10 am while I was getting ready for my walk. Betty walked in and asked me if I would like to go to Cabo Pulmo. Well, duh! YES! Cabo Pulmo is a national park area and boasts the only living coral reef in Western North America. I was ready in about ten minutes and we were on the road. Once you get into the park area, it is about 10 miles of bad dirt roads--about 30 minutes to reach the beach area but the vistas were phenomenal! Talk about pristine beaches.

The waters were a bit chilly for me but we stopped in three different places to snorkel off the coast. We had hired a panga and equipment to take us out. We had not idea of what to expect and thought we would just snorkel from the beach. It cost like $30 per person for the park permit and equipment. Between the 5 of us, we came up with the needed fee and made the trip back with about $7.00 USD between us!The visibility was not so great but we saw a lot of different and LARGE fish! We also got to snorkel with some seals. That kind of creeped me out but I did it. They just kind of swam around us and seemed well adapted to our presence.

Because the water in CP is shallower than here, the color of the water is a more varied hue of blues. The beaches in Los Barriles are as beautiful and many people claim that the beaches here equal in beauty those of Hawaii.

So....that was a great day for me! I have wanted to make the trip there for a couple of years!
