sue est te- hello!
After an eventful two days of teaching the weekend had finally arrived. We eagerly awaited the last child to be collected and then it was off to change (no point showering just to get sweaty again) then climbed aboard a tuk tuk bound for the FCC or Foreign Correspondance Club with a magnificant view overlooking the river on 'tourist street'. Two jugs of Ankor beer later we zipped around the corner to an Indian place - a favourite amongst the other volunteers. We were back well before cerfew with full tummies and plenty of laughs shared.
The school is holding its first ever fundraising day next Saturday and the place is abuzz with lists of things to do, make and buy. This morning we trapsed through a local market with a student and teacher Panyay who kindly came with us to help translate. The volunteers have taken this onbaord and they had originally expected it to be a gathering of 30-50 parents but it has now blown out to 170! This has caused some choas and poor Owen who is meant to be cooking all the food is growing more anxious every day. I feel a bit overwhelmed since I have arrived mid way through the preparationss but I'm sure it will all come together will and be a great success. I hope you are all well and not finding these entries too boring.

Hi darling, I see you are already learning a few words of the local language. It seems you are doing lots with the other volunteers, which is great... I would hate to think you were lonely. Is there anyone close to you in age? I hope the fundraising day goes well. Is Cambodia on the same time frame as Australia, as we thought? You also mentioned going to Siem Reap around your birthday, on the 'long weekend'. How come it is a long weekend in Cambodia? Was the local market like the one we went to in Vietnam? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I want to get as much info from you as possible, so I can better understand what you are doing and what life is like for you. I am off to Soda Sunlounge in a little while for coffee with Felicity and Susana. Had a great night last night with Joan and Chris etc at Winthrop Hall. The music and dance was spectaular.... the program entitled 'Out of Africa'... songs, dance and drums from a variety of African countries. I am loving having a weekend at home with only a few social outings. I have ironed, read and done a bit of french homework. Went to the gym on Friday and washed my filtyhy car. Used the treadmill yesterday and will again later today. Have a school function which I will go to for an hour from about 4.30 onwards - it is a picninc day for families and David asked us to drop in if we could, but no obligation to do so. Love your blogs. They could never be boring. Keep them coming. Do you think the clothes you brought are sufficient, of the right kind etc? Love you HEAPS. Mum
