The Most Easterly Point of the Australian MainlandThe Most Easterly Point of the Australian MainlandThe Most Easterly Point of the Australian Mainland

Let's see if any other corner can compare ...
Today we spent the day in Byron and WHAT A TREAT we had!

I actually went there to take a photo of the kids with the “This is the most Easterly point on the Australian Mainland” sign to add to our road trip album. When we walked up to the lighthouse though, we knew it was a pretty special day!

SEA TURTLES all over the place - too many to mention! The water was so crystal clear it resembled a pool. There were manta rays and sting rays flying through the water and plenty or dolphins cruising around ... but the turtles were just so special - I’d never seen them like that before!

Afterward we went for a walk along the rocks from Watego’s to The Pass. Just near the pass there’s a kind of rock pool cave which was accessible only via a break in the rocks on one side, although there was still a small climb over and through a small amount of weed - the other entrance was inaccessible due to the tide. We all climbed inside to look around before turning to see that the rocks and weed we just climbed through housed not one but two small octopi, which may or may not have been of the blue ringed variety! I wasn’t about to touch them to find out in either case.

We were trapped by two creatures no bigger than my hand with no easy way out! It made for an exciting escape route climbing a small rock face one by one, and then some relieved giggles afterward!

We all thought that there could be nowhere in Australia quite as special as our own backyard on the North Coast. We are just so blessed in every way here - beautiful weather, gorgeous beaches, diverse wildlife, ‘alternate’ lifestyle - we think we have it all! … our challenge is to see if there’s anywhere else in this great land of ours that compares 😉

Re: Byron
That walk is a must, it's the most beautiful place on earth I'm certain of it ... careful of the pretty blue octopi though, they could rain on your parade!
