Kittery Cafe
The Chef's Cove Cafe is an adorable favorite of mine. I stayed here for hours while Jeremy worked, updating this blog. Flying from Singapore to Hong Kong to San Francisco to Boston and then an hour drive to Kittery, Maine. Why in the world would I then fly to Miami? Well, first off, it's colder than &$*($(& here. Oh, I could go on and on about the blessing that I wasn't with Jeremy when he moved to Maine. Holy crap it's cold here.
At any rate, I flew out to meet Jeremy and explore his cute little town of Kittery, Maine. Yes, it does have some redeeming qualities but it is insanely cold and I've been used to tropical weather for the past year. Talk about body shock... I had to dress up like a snowman every minute, I even wore my coat indoors at times. It was certainly a long transit to get there too. I managed to see a few friends from Jeremy's boat life, talked to some friends and family on the phone. It was strange to get the States, I'm not used to the way of life in the U.S. anymore. How strange is that?
It was a pretty short turnaround of a couple of days when we
Dragging Luggage
Can't wait to drop this stuff off. flew down to Miami from Boston, but I could at least look forward to the warm weather of Miami, right? Nope, it was still comparably colder than Singapore, but at least I could survive in pants and a long sleeved shirt. This Royal Caribbean cruise had been planned for quite some time with our friends, Dave and Amanda from Poulsbo, Washington. We met them at the airport and off we went to begin our grand adventure in cruising.
We stayed the night in downtown Miami, sharing a room and catching up a bit. Amanda had taken up running since I last saw her over a year ago. Sweet! I have a workout buddy for the cruise! Yeah, yeah... I've said that before. Of course I'm going to work out on vacation! Uh, whatever Krysten, keep lying to yourself if you must. We did start out right, taking a jog downtown the next morning. I ran my first 10k. Yep, I couldn't really believe it either. It felt pretty good, though we ran through some dodgy areas, we set a good pace and went with it, contentedly listening to our music without much conversation. It turned out
At the Port
Yeah, we're dorks. to be just the motivation we needed to keep up the routine on the ship, I'm happy to say. So there! I did workout the whole trip.
Getting to the ship, it was a sight to behold. It's a giant, floating hotel with everything you could imagine and more. I was blown away by the promenade and all the totally unnecessary shops and amenities on the ship. If someone tells me that they've experienced being out at sea with a cruise vacation, I'm going to have to hold my breath and try not to laugh in their face. It's the difference between a Motel 6 and the Waldorf Astoria... plus about 10 more powers (math people, don't think Harry Potter here). I had to remind myself a few times that it is vacation, but seriously... it was a bit over the top. The dining room, three decks (or floors for the non-nautical types) and it's super-posh. When the ship got into some heavier seas, I didn't even notice. Less than 1/2 a degree of roll just doesn't register when you've been on a flat bottom Naval vessel. It was enough to send many others crawling to
their staterooms and heads (or bathrooms). Pansies...
