“What about a day trip to Quartzsite?”

“Where’s that?”

“And we can go to the Flying J for breakfast.”

“Let’s do it, she replied.”

Arriving at the Flying J, we saw signs for the truck stop, Wendy’s and the restaurant.

“I’ll check this out; stay put.”

I went inside and looked around. I saw the Wendy’s section at the far end, so I went the other way. The food court was not that way; I jawed a little with some truck drivers watching a big screen television.

“Get out of the way, fella.”

“I’m a trucker, looking for food, men.”

“It’s that a-way,” they pointed in unison.

After awhile, I found the restaurant section where you can sit down and order food. I saw a side door and went out and around the building to get to The Beast.

When I got there, I found Shaddy alone, locked in the cab.

“She didn’t stay put, dah!”

“It’s not your fault Shaddy, she has never been one to stay put. I’ll stay with you.”

By and by, Nan (the one who does not stay put) came back to the truck. There was a conversation. And the next thing I knew, we were seated in the sit down and order food section.

So, we split an egg, cheese and mushroom omelet and ordered bowls of grits. It weren’t that bad.

After breakfast, we pointed The Beast toward Quartzsite, AZ, about 18 miles east. I’ll tell you, when the speed limit is 75 miles an hour, it doesn’t take long to cover that distance. Why, we could have used a drag chute to start slowing down about three miles before the exit to Quartzsite.

So, we did Quartzsite, top to bottom, left to right. It is not as bad as I expected. They have some paved, and in some cases, curbed roads. Traffic signals too. You can see where the hoards of people stay in their RVs during the big rock and gem hoedowns in January and February.

We visited The Arroyos development east of town. We liked the design of some of the homesteads, but the price was too high. I like the concept of having a tall RV designed garage attached to a modest sized homestead. But I don’t think I like such design in Quartzsite. Have a look yourself at www.thearroyos.net.

This evening, I made a photo of the sunset on the Colorado River. It is posted with this blog entry.

Stay tuned,

Paddy
