Boat PartyBoat PartyBoat Party

We went on a boat party to meet the other ECES kids.. there are 90 of us from all over the country. They gave us a plate of five donuts, one plate for each person.. probably because we're Americans, and they believe the stereotype.
On my second full day in Prague, we had our orientation for Charles University. Our dorm mother led us to our building down town. We were going to walk, but we were running late, so 30 of us were lined up to get tram tickets, but there was not enough time! So Suzana told us to get on with out paying.. She told us in her cute czech accent "dont worry... people do it all the time" Yet there is a $40 fine you have to pay if you get caught! We arrived at one of the academic buildings which is right near the Charles bridge and has an amazing view of the city. We sat in a huge classroom with all the international students (99% American). They were from all over the US, which was pretty cool. A professor from the History department who happened to be french told us things we should expect in Prague... She said that Czechs are not the most friendly and not to take it personally if they are rude or ignore us. But once you do make a Czech friend, they will never forget you, whereas Americans are friendly right away, but will forget

you the next day. I thought this was pretty interesting.. We got our ID cards today which are very useful because we get student discounts.. We got a metro pass for the whole semester for around $40.. Student discounts are huge here. For dinner we found a pub behind our dorm that was sooooo cheap! We wanted water, but the server said "No! You are in Czech! You must drink beer!" So, we got beer, of course.. It was only 22CK (around $1).. And I finally tried the Czech goulash (a traditional Czech meal).. and no it does not have macaroni wish marinara sauce and mozzarella, it is kind of a beef stew with dumplings. To me, it was a little boring, but it tasted good.

Interesting about what you said about how Americans tend to easily forget someone. Personally, I somewhat agree with what she said because many people that I have come across tend to be like that. But it could also be a generalization. And of course you drank beer.. I bet the beer tasted delish and not the crappy beer we have over here. But I'm glad you're enjoying your stay there!
