in spain!!

Made it to Madrid safe and sound!

Well, my day started out on Thursday. I went for a run and did some last minute packing. Then off to the airport I went! Everything ran smoothly. There were hardly any people in Norfolk, but go figure...BOTH my bags were checked...I know I look completely suspicious.

Then I had my 7 hour layover in Newark, which was actually not that bad. I walked around a bit trying to get my back used to my backpack that they let me plane side. It was sure nice to have all my luggage with me so I didnt have to worry about it being lost, but on the way home...i am NOT taking it again.

I thought I had a seat to myself on the plane, but at the last minute a super tall older gentleman sat by me. He was nice at least. It wasnt too bad. I slept on and off.

When I landed in Madrid it was smooth sailing. I went through customs and walked for what seemed like an eternity to get to the metro. I had to walk to the other terminal to get it. Then 3 trains and 40 minutes later I come up on the Callao stop and my Hostal is 5 flights of stairs up! I show up, have my room. It is cute. I have no pictures yet, but I will take some later.

My plan for the day is:
1. nap
2. eat lunch (lunch doesnt really start until 1 here)
3. explore la latina -- a little barrio near my hostal
4. eat dinner (around 8)
5. sleep.

tomorrow the plan is to head to Toledo for the day. It should be exciting! Will get photos when I take them.

the people are WONDERFUL. i feel safer here than in NYC, not that I am letting my guard down, but it is really nice.
