I had the most bizarre encounter as I left Frankfurt.
I truly have skill.
Bus ride last night was alright - I didn’t sleep much b/c I’m so excited/nervous about Bulgaria, but I still managed to get 2-3 hours. I hate passport control… again, at 12:30am as we pass into Germany we get the guards. At least they were friendly… but we got stuck there for an hour. Sigh.
Rest of the bus ride was uneventful (I talked to 2 American boys for a bit while stuck in controls), and then I had breakfast at the train station before taking the S-bahn to the airport.
And that’s where my story begins.
I need to stop smiling to strangers in Europe, it doesn’t do me any good.
This guy smiles at me, so I smile back. He asks where I’m from, Canada. “Oh Canada! I love Canada! I lived there for 2 years!” Turns out he lived in Ottawa for a couple months, and Toronto for just over a year. He asked what I was doing in Europe - backpacking and volunteering. He had all these q’s so I’m kind of like, ok w/e. He then asked if
I had time to talk… sigh. Okfine.
We go up to the airport, and I plop myself on the floor against the wall of a busy hall. He insisted there was a nice room where we could talk in private. I’m like uh, no? We talk here, or we don’t talk =)
He then goes on telling me his life story. Like seriously everything. Then telling me he never talks to people, but he was drawn by me, my charisma and my heart.
Sigh. Why do the weird ones gravitate to me?
He then goes to read my palm… and all this crazy crap. He asked again about going to the room and I’m like ok seriously, no. He then got all flustered saying no, no he doesn’t want to do anything (hahaha) it’s just easier to talk. Again I repeated we could talk here, or nowhere. Fine. (PS I noted I had a boyfriend in Canada. Don’t mess haha)
He started showing me all this artwork he’s done (have to give him credit, he’s pretty good), and then starts telling me he works for some famous guy at a pastry/cake decoration place… “Magic Man”…
Seriously, why?
Best for last - he goes on to tell me to spread my message, and spread love, and goes on this epic nonsensical talk about how the world needs more love, and I should carry that message, and touch everyone.
Yes. Of course.
I politely noted that I had a flight to catch, and went off on my way… and that was that.
My flight was uneventful (passed through some gorgeous cotton-candy clouds!) and I’m now in Sofia. Oh my. First off, I have found crazier/more frantic drivers than Montreal haha - insanity!! And from what I saw on the drive to the hotel, the city’s a strange mix of incredibly old, dilapidated buildings and busses, with beautiful modern buildings and busses. My hotel is near a huge mountain (Vitosha), so it seems like a decent area. My room is nice anyway. I think the rest of today will be spent relaxing (due to lack of sleep last night) and then we’ll see how much adventuring I do tomorrow… eep.

hiding out from "strange men"
When you get home ask Rosalie about her experiences in Paris - she spent a day hiding out in the partk from some guy who wanted to take her to his apartment so he could cook for her!
