This is definitely one spot that is widely advertised as one of the must sees for people in Portland, OR. Multnomah Falls is the second-tallest year-round waterfall in the nation. One of the things I definitely love about living here is you barely have to drive 10 mins and you are surrounded by natural beauty every side. The coast is less than 2 hrs away and the desert is less than 4, I can’t really ask for more. We moved here in Aug 2008 but having a baby put a stop on travel for a while. This trip to the falls was so my parents could see a bit more than the 4 walls of our home. Also exposing V to small trips to see how he and I did 😊

The drive along the scenic Columbia River Highway is wonderful. I have found this map very useful. Here is another link . Being here for close to a year now and talking to local Oregonians, I realize that this place is best enjoyed on foot and by exploring various trails and not by printing out tour maps or looking for discount tickets 😱 The reason that is, is because Oregon is so beautiful every side you turn. The rain that this state is so famous for attributes to lush green every single side and you feel like you are living in a hillside resort.

Back to our visit to Multnomah Falls, we did not definitely plan to hike or trek this time and made only two stops. One at the Crown Point Overlook Vista House and the next at the falls itself. The view of the gorge at the Vista house is gorgeous. It never hits you that you are climbing higher and higher until you actually view the freeway from up there. And on the journey back when you look up at the Vista house from I-84 you realize the altitude you had gone up. It is hard to imagine that what you are seeing is the river and not the ocean itself, it is a majestic sight!

Multnomah falls is beautiful. The bridge across takes you close enough to get a very good view and great pictures. We skipped the hike to the top as we did not have the appropriate gear with V and remained happy that we came this far. For another time, we shall wait. These are a few pics from our trip.

P.S. This blog is also late by 3 months, as V grows..I hope the frequency of travels and my posts increase.
