My last entry to travelblog was in 2007. It is now June 2009, been two years. Well, lots have happened in our lives and travel was not a top priority 😊

I first saw the tulip fields in the tamil movie "Anniyan" in the song "Kumari..", it was truly spectacular! However I have since then seen many friends visiting Tulip farms in Seattle. When we moved to Portland and found out that they have Tulip farms, it was one thing we wanted to do. With a 10 month old, we were looking for easy things to include in our travels and this fit right in.

After researching a bit, I found the Woodburn tulip farm , less than 40 miles from where we live. Karthik's parents were visiting us to help with little V and we thought this would be a nice outing for all. And the only thing left was to pray that it did not rain in Portland, which was like asking for snow in Chennai in my opinion 😊

We arrived there early to avoid the crowds and were successful. We saw acres and acres (~actually only about 4 acres) of tulips, all in full blossom and ready to be cut the next day. We went the last day of the festival. It had rained the previous day so it made for some muddy areas which was not fun. But I recommend wearing rain shoes and clothes you would not mind dirtying. However with a family that loves photos, I lost and we went in good clothes and worse good shoes 😞

There was enough activity to occupy most part of the day if you wanted. Include a picnic in your plans as it is lovely to spend time in the open. We did and really enjoyed it. There was a cute train that took you from one end to the other end of the field. There were tractors and steam engines that you could take pictures of and explore. There was a whole area for play including pony rides, floats..all kinds of things. We did not explore that much as it was time for V's nap time.

I would definitely recommend this to everyone. It is easy, not expensive ($10 for a car) and makes for some great pictures.
