1: lobos marinos en las islas ballestas 12 secs
If anyone reading this is familiar with our last trip where we arrived in the middle of the night in Delhi, got kidnapped and dragged around the City until we were forced to buy a tour, well....this trip has been nothing like that...at least so far! (fingers crossed)

We arrived in Lima and the hostal actually picked us up with a very legitimate looking sign with my name butchered but understandable. We soaked up the parks and plazas in Miraflores, the rich/backpacker-friendly part of Lima.

After a day we took a very fancy bus to Paracas, on the coast. Let´s just say we played bingo for a bottle of pisco on the way down (we were one away from winning!) and were able to see the highly acclaimed film Practical Magic starring Sandra Bullock. Once there, we stumbled into a boat tour of the Islas Ballestas with a bunch of Peruvian families. We hope to upload a video of the sea lions, birds, bird poop, etc. that we saw there.

Yesterday we took a taxi to a bus to an autorickshaw to arrive here in Huacachina. It is literally an oasis with some palm trees and a little lake in the middle of high and vast sand dunes. They are pushing us hard to do sandboarding! dune buggy tour! wine and chocolate factory tour! but we keep turning them down to laze about the pool. We did gather some gumption last night to hike to the top of the dunes for the sunset. If we can figure it out, there may also be a picture from that excursion.

We´re still figuring out the food situation as usually healthy vegetarians. So far we´ve been in touristy places where there are hardly mini-marts much less grocery stores so we haven´t been able to make or buy much fresh food. We´ve done a lot of french fries, omelets, pizza, sad salads, etc. We´re getting more savvy as we go though and actually had some top notch veg food at a vegetarian restaurant in Lima where we got to try some traditional dishes, but with gluten instead of meat!

We´re making changes to our original plans daily and are now detouring into the mountains to escape the heat. Instead of Arequipa, we´re heading to Ayacucho tonight on an overnight bus. We get in at 4am and we´re hoping that´s ok!

HUACACHINA
What a fun word to say! Ayacucho is no slouch, either. Attaway with the technology-forward blog, you two. Very fun.
