The Beginning

Charlotte-Cape Cod, dropped off car. Cape Cod-Dallastown,PA picked up RV. Dallastown-Grove City,OH visited the Youngs. Grove City-Charlotte,NC to prepare for our adventures.

We brought in the New Year with a "wahoo" and a "good night." Boring? Maybe, but I believe that our dreams were calling to us louder than any champagne bottle. The eve of our New Year was spent in our new home. Our RV. In 2 days, we will have had the RV for a whole week. I haven't had my car for a whole week!! Thats it. The first step to our new life. I left my Escort in my moms driveway. Tucked neatly beside the garage. I didn't even turn around for one more look as we drove away. I think perhaps I felt I didn't need to. I don't think I realized the freedom that the Escort held. The Escort held the key to my individual freedom. I should have said goodbye. There will be no more aimless drives. There will be no more "running" to the store. I've traded it in for the open road, planning meals, and running to the store (or peddling). I'm not to sure how I plan on getting to Grammas house for dinner or to the eye doctor thats across town. Riding a bike is out of the question, at least for Grammas house. Oops. Perhaps, I'll grow wings and fly. OR maybe, I can convince Adam of the importance of having din din with gramma. EVEN IF IT COSTS $20 IN GAS! I'm not sure how I'll sell it, but I'll try.
The RV is the new, more expansive freedom. We picked up the RV in Dallastown,PA. It was pretty exciting seeing it for the first time. I'm not really sure what was going through my head at the time. I'm thinking, that I was thinking,"thats my home?"or"he he he oh my gosh, wow, he he he." But I can't be sure. But there it was standing tall and proud, humming a sweet tune. It sure was purrT. After a quick tour and run down we got the papers signed and off we were. Well, we were off to Ohio. We took I-70 from Harrisburg, PA to Columbus, OH. We drove a few hours before we hit our first detour in South Strabane Township,PA. A concrete barrier crashed into the interstate. 3 were injured. How awful. Instead of going around we decided then to stop for the night. Our first night in our RV was spent "boondocking" in a Walmart parking lot. We slept like babies. In the morning we continued on. When we arrived in Grove City, OH we parked our RV in a church parking lot, across from the Youngs house. We were to spend the next few nights "boondocking" here. This was our first real trial run. I think we failed. At least I did. When we ran out of propane and the RV became an ice box, I threw in the towel. I would have yelled loudly that I was not "hard core" if i was asked. Luckily I wasn't asked to and we stayed with the Youngs for 2 comfy cozy nights.
Now we are back in Charlotte. We're just here long enough to fix up some parts of the RV. We need to seal some of the windows that leak. We also need to do something to the roof to prevent future leaks. The back bedroom needs some work and I want to replace some of the counter tops. Then we are off! We're headed west to Joshua Tree first. There's so much to see, I can hardly imagine the beauty each place has to offer. I want to see it all. From small town to big city. From hillside to Mountainside. From the grassy plain to the dry desert. From sea to shinning sea! Wahoo for us and our adventure...This is how I spent my New Years. DREAMING of what lies before us and what we're leaving behind.

Saying good bye to an old friend
As one goes through life there are certain things that remain with us. For most people that can and is a special car. You write us about you walking away from your Escort without bidding it a farewell or thanking it for taking care of you or hauling you from place to place. Is that any way to treat a friend. Yes, I said friend. Your Escort took care of your butt all that time and you don't even turn your head to say goodbye as you traded it in for the RV. That's so "un-cool".
