...my now favourite place in the world! I love it!
Finally, after dreaming about going there ever since a few years ago, I finally got on that train and made the 4+ hour journey to York.
Saturday 11th October 2008 So after about five hours sleep on Friday night, I got into dads car to head to the station to catch the 6.20am train to London Victoria. After saying goodbye to dad, I headed into the station to find the right platform. Waiting on the platform for a bit longer than planned as he train was a few minutes delayed. Made it to London around 7am and headed towards the underground to get the Victoria line to London King's Cross station.
As my train was leaving King's Cross at about 8am, I had just under an hour to wait, so headed off in search of food and something to read. Found the magazine my friend had mentioned, that McFly were in so I flicked through it for the interview. Almost started laughing in the middle of the shop, but realised it wasn't worth the £2+. So went to find some food and sit and wait for the
train. Platform number showed up and I picked up my bags and went to find the train.
I climbed aboard the train and went in search of a seat for the 2 hour journey to York, was surprised to find that York would be the first stop.
Train eventually pulled into York station and I went to meet my friend who was waiting on the platform. Then ventured off in search of her car for the drive to York College. A reason, amongst others, for visiting York.
The college was huge, but not what I expected. Filled in a form and was taken to the department I asked about, to find no one was there to talk to, so we left after about 15 minutes. Then went back to my friends house, as we had over an hour to wait until we were due to meet some of my friend's friends.
Got back to my friends house, and she decided we weren't going to go into York as she didn't feel like driving back again, until she had a call to say we were to be meeting a guy from a band, so we jumped into
the car and headed to the train station to get the train as it was quicker. Arrived at York station for the second time in one day and went to wait for one of her friends. Who it turned out was running a bit late, having had to walk from a bus stop a while away.
Headed into the city to wait for a guy from a band, based in York. Who my friend had said we'd do some flyering for. He had to head back to work, and we waited for another friend to turn up.
Wandered the city for a few hours putting flyers in random places; stuck to lamp posts, on shelves in shops, stuck to notice boards and even taking a picture of a guy on stilts (Ghost walk) who we asked to hold a few - after he'd had a picture with a famous duck!
Then headed back to the station to get the train back to my friends and spent the evening watched the X Factor and Celebrity Family Fortunes - with Matt Willis!
Let me know if anyone sees the flyers please. The band is called The Fallen.
Sunday 12th October 2008 Left my friends house at around 8am and drove into York to spend the day queuing for a gig. Doors opened around 6pm, and Elliot Minor finally came on stage around 8.15pm. Stayed after the gig, until security told everyone they were closing up and we went to find some food before heading back to the car.
Monday 13th October 2008 My last day in York, sort of.
Packed my bags and my friend drove me to the station in her town, and went to wait for my train to York, which was running a few minutes late. Arrived at York station to find that my train was half an hour delayed. Until I re-read the departures board and realised i'd read it for the wrong train and mine was running on time.
Train arrived and I went in search of a seat, eventually found an unreserved seat and went to sleep for most of the journey. Just over two hours later and the train arrived at King's Cross station, at platform 4 - which I have since found out was were they filmed the scenes in Harry Potter!
Walked to the underground and got on the Victoria line back to London Victoria station to get the train back to town. Arrived in town at just gone 1.20pm, and raced outside to get my bus, but realised i'd missed it, so walked very fast into town to try and get it, however I pulled away just as I got there. Decided to ring dad to see if he could give me a lift home, but he was working elsewhere so I had to sit and wait for the next bus an hour later.
Finally walked in the door at 3pm, after having left my friend house at around 7am.
Overall, I had an amazing time in York.
Seven trains, two tubes, one bus and eight car journeys later, i'm already planning my return trip!
