We left Dan & Cathy's on Wednesday & were heading to Chicago when we realized that we had wanted to see the Notre Dame University, so we ended up backtracking a bit in order to go back to South Bend, IN. When we got to ND, we went to the Visitor's Center to find out if there were any events happening on campus. Well, there wasn't anything going on that night but can you believe that the woman at the visitor's center desk knew someone from Dutch Harbor & of course Ken knew her friend!!! Jamie was very helpful & gave us lots of info about ND, plus we asked her if there was a place we could camp out on campus & then take a shower the next day. We ended up pitching our tent in the parking lot of the ND Stadium (actually, on a grassy strip in the parking lot). Then the following morning (today) we were able to get into the Knute Rockne Memorial Gym to take showers. Thank you, Jamie!

We finally made it to Chi-town today. We basically just drove through the city & found a place downtown to get "Downtown Dogs." The picture is from the hot dog joint.

We're now in Clinton, Iowa - just across the Mississippi River from Illinois. We plan on driving straight across the middle of Iowa & then deciding where to go next. We hope to catch a local high school football game tomorrow night (Friday). Don't know where we'll sleep tonight - have to get going so we can find a place to pitch the tent.
