Amazing! Hi guys,
Thankyou for your amazing pictures. My boyfriend and I travelled along the same roads as you back in May/June and it's remarkable to see the same landscape under snow. We also took a dip in the Liard Hot Springs, but it was so crowded we had to camp in the parking lot. Good on you - I'll definitely come back to read your Blog again.
Miss you Diane, I really enjoyed your trip and pictures. I've put it on my agenda for retirement in 4 years! Will stop by if you're still in ANC. Hope you're all settled in now and getting acclimated to the low temperatures. Keep in touch and enjoy your adventure!
Hungry? Dear DC - Welcome to Alaska. As a 15 year resident myself, I wish you a pleasant stay. Do check out New Sagaya City market, good food. And Europa Bakery for bread. I lived in Fairbanks and always enjoyed coming to town for good treats. Most of all, enjoy the light. And lack of it. And if you get depressed, remember it might be SAD, lots of people get it.
Enjoy the Greatland!
I know what it is... The old farm equipment is a grain thresher machine, it was used the same way grain combines are today. I think it is a McCormick Brand. Farmers would run it off of a steam engine and put bundles of grain in one end and someone would stand under the piece that came off of the top and bag the grain into burlap sacks as it came out, the grain would then be sold.
The back end of it would shoot the stocks and stems out into a straw pile, they would use the straw for bedding animals, or feed.
Go Herman! So Herman was a real flirt ey? How cute! Your pics are pretty darn nice! good job. thanks for all the updates, keep 'em coming, I love reading this!
