the city of La Fortuna, Costa Rica (volcano in the background)
Right now I am sitting in an internet café in the small Costa Rican town of LaFortuna (north western part of the country) . I am going to spend a few days here and then head to Nicaragua. The town itself is in the shadow of a huge volcano (see pics...) it is actually quit beautiful here. I have taken 2 long bus rides to get back up to this part of the country...and i am going to have to take a lot more of these long bus rides (with no leg room) before I get up to Guatamala. A few times during the ride we came across traffic. Traffic here is a little different then back at home. There are not that many roads so when there is traffic...THERE IS TRAFFIC. I had no idea what to expect when we first stopped until i saw the bus driver get out a lawn chair and sit on the side of the road... When we finally got going again I saw that a huge truck carring oranges had flipped (there where oranges everywhere).

In San Jose (and all of central america from what I hear) there are parties everynight of the

Traffic on the way
week until Christmas...i am was lucky enought to stumble on one last night. Basically in the center of town everyone gathers (mostly younger kids) and they through tiny scraps of paper (what is the name for that....the more i speak in span-lish the more english words I forget). These little scraps of paper are supposed to represent snow....and there are thousands of people doing it...so it ends up being this huge party. Also, instead of throwing the paper over your head...everyone basically tries to get it in your eyes an mouth (and no they where not only doing that to me because I am a gringo). I mean these kids are chucking paper at people...blindsiding them...doing the old..tap on one shoulder and then get them from the otherside trip (those sneaky bastards).

Today I went hiking to a local water fall with some people (a couple from texas, and a guy from canada) from my hostel. The waterfall was actually pretty amazing (as you can see from the pics). Tomorrow I am going to hike up to this volcano that towers over the city...supposedly it is the most active volcano in the western hemispher...erupting almost everynight (hopefully i´ll be

able to see it through the ever present clouds).

I feel like I´m forgetting something that happened....oh well i can always update more tomorrow =)
