Ios
Sunset from our hotel having some wine It was all about relaxing on the Islands for us as our trip was winding down and that’s exactly what we did. It is quite hard to keep busy on the Islands this time of year anyway with it the low season and all well it was more like the dead season as there was know one around at all so we had whole beaches for ourselves which was fine by us.
The weather was not as warm as it could be but we were still getting around in shorts and did some swimming in the crystal clear waters still so was very nice.
Our first Island we went to was called Syros and were there for three nights. When we arrived of our ferry we were greeted by a few hotel owners trying to get us to take there room. We got 75% off the high season rate and it was a great place right in the middle of the town there. Didn't do a great deal that night since we had a massive bus trip on the way to the port to catch the ferry over and that takes several hours as well. The second day there
Santorini
Sunset over the volcano from Santorini we got onto a bus and headed to a beach with not one other person on it and lazed around for a few hours until bored and headed back to the hotel. That is pretty much what we did for a week, find a beach, lay there, go back to the town and shop and eat! Nice way to finish of the trip to chill from all the rushing about we have been doing.
The second day there we tired out a scooter so we could have a good look at the Island and I didn't realize how large they actually are! It took pretty much all day to completely explore the Island but we got to see all the different beaches and the other towns scattered around the place.
Next Island was Ios one of the two main party Islands out there but no partying for us. Actually we were the only opens to get off the boat there and the whole Island seems to be shut down! A major tourist driven place it is and we were lucky to actually get a place to stay there since the season. We pretty much did the same as the
Ios
Clear water other Island, just lay around for three days, some swimming and yeah that’s all for Ios.
The next and last Island was our favorite by far, Santorini. It used to much much larger but in 1450 BC the volcano there blew its top and the Island sunk. What is left was stunning! The top of the volcano is still visible in the centre of other small Islands in a ring around it with Santorini the largest one. The edge of Santorini is all massive cliff faces on the volcano side and levels out on the other. The cliff face looks awesome with so many different colors up the side with the layers. Since it is all volcano here all the beaches are volcanic rock as well and there are different colors scattered around the place. We saw black, red and white volcanic rock beaches and looks very strange. Also here on the Island is where the world famous sunset is but we only got to see it once as it was overcast the other two days. It is a fairly big Island so we once again got a scooter to cruise around the place and it is great fun
on them things but getting used to the other side of the road is a little difficult though.
All the Islands were beautiful though and it would be great to go there in summer just to see what it is like, next year maybe but that is a long time off yet.
Well that is all really for the Islands, we didn't do much during our visit but this time of year there is nothing to do but just what we wanted to do for awhile before going to Athens for a few days then back to London. We got a little bored from time to time and we kept thinking we should be doing something and feel bad for not since every other place we went to we were short of time and rushing about all over the place.
