Salimos de Japon con el corazon inchado de tanto carinio recibido de nuestros amigos. El ritmo del barco nos arrullo por las 25 horas de viaje. Ser los unicos no asiaticos en el barco nos dio una pista de lo que ibamos a vivir despues de Japon.

Llegamos ya tarde y el puerto de Taicang parecia salido de una novela, todo cubierto con bruma. Entramos a China por la puerta grande, y es que gracias a la trampita del taxista, caimos en un hotel de 4 estrellas. Nada de que quejarse.

Al otro dia ya comenzo nuestro camino de mochilero. Antes de llegar a la gran Shanghai, quisimos llegar a "pueblecitos mas pequenios" (con poblacion promedio de 6 millones). Suzhou han sido una excelente buen comienzo pero Hangzhou robo nuestro corazon. Desde el primer momento hemos gozado la comida tan variada y abundante, y hemos ido perfeccionando el lenguaje internacional de senias para movernos, comer, etc.

Por algo casi magico supimos de un templo en la montania que recibe viajeros y nos lanzamos a la aventura. El registro de visitas indicaba que eramos los unicos viajeros occidentales que han llegado en los 10 anios. Nos toco levantarnos a las 4 de la maniana para el rezo con los monjes y nos toco comer esa muy simple pero tan deliciosa comida vegetariana. Y todo esto por una cantidad ridicula de dinero. Una experiencia inolvidable.

Con Shanghai no hicimos contacto sustancial. Tal vez nos falta cultura o no tenemos mucha simpatia por las ciudades grandes, pero ya nos sentimos listos para ir al sur. Sera que ya empieza a hacer frio. Proxima parada: Guilin y Yangshuo.

We left Japan with a heart filled with gratitude fro all the love we received from our good friends. During 25 hours, the rhythm of the ship soothed us making it easy to be the only westerner on the boat. This gave us a clue of what we were up against after Japan.

We arrived late at Taicang port, which was covered by a mist taken from a mystery novel. We entered China in first class, thanks to our taxi driver, who "convinced us" of staying at a 4 stars hotel. (Not that I am complaining).

The next day we started our normal backpackers life. Before Shanghai we chose to visit some "smaller towns" (6 million inhabitants on average). Suzhou has been a good start but Hangzhou really won our heart. From the first moment we have been enjoying the very diverse and abundant food and we are perfectioning our international body language to get around and get food.

Only by chance we found out about a Buddhist temple in the mountains receiving visitors. We had to go. The visitors book showed us we were actually the only foreigners in the last 10 years. We woke up at 4 am to attend the early service and we ate the very simple but wonderful vegetarian food they cooked for us. And all this for pennies. An unforgettable experience.

Shanghai didn't leave a big impression on us. Maybe because we didn't find the cultural roots or we just don't have sympathy for big cities. The fact is we are for sure ready to head south. Maybe it's getting too cold. Our next stop: Guilin and Yangshuo.
