Mexican Indepedence Experience
the zoocolo, where the main celebration where held, so we made it there... just not at the right time Ok, ok, ok… so it’s been a week, and no blog, ("yes, si i'm fine, thanks for asking 😊 from the hurricane, i was out of town anyway... oh the joys of travelling") but here jade hits back better than ever… with the most populated city in the world to show for it. Fortunately, citizens escaped from the hustle and bustle of the Federal district for independence weekend.
WHAT is Mexican Independence Day, like our New Years, like America’s Christmas, like the fiestas of all fiestas, but here is how it’s define in (Encarta.)
So we drove down (Carolina’s Car), first, to Guanajuato, which took about 6/ 7 hours and is the ‘traditional’ town where Independence Day was originally celebrated, or some small town close by called, ‘Dos hidalgos’ (I think), is where the war started, and ended with a lil man yelling something patriot with the town bell. ANYWAYS, so we headed there, with no accommodation, just money (carolina’s), friends and faith, and it all worked out.
In such beautiful city, how could it not? Buildings are coloured sporadically well, and there’s a scent of magic in the air. I must sadly admit, we missed the
The lovely boys
that forgot my lovely luggage actual celebrations with all the pretty fireworks and what not, we thought it was at 12 so we were in a bar with SUPERB live music, but it wasn’t…. it was at 11, and what with being on time… Mexican’s are never on time! Grrr… it happens. So anyway, Carolina and I only stayed one night, (one great night btw) and then headed down (another 4/5 hours) to D.F, her home-town, the big…smog (which actually wasn’t that bad too be honest, the smog that is, very over-exaggerated).
I must admit, spending 4 days there, you could see a decent amount, but NOPE… I laid off the touristy things this time, but what was interesting is watching the ‘Mexican Family’ interact, native friends, domesticated life in a ‘corrupted’ city, something that not many get to experience, and I thank Carolina for that, “Mexico City’s not about, this particular monument, or showing you this or this things, but about the feeling, the culture… the way of life”
I did catch the metro though! The most dangerous transport system in the world…. Lol no not really, but not the safest fo’ sure, to the Zoocolo, main city centre square.
Filled with
first class
we saw lots of this! i vant to do it! i vant.. i vant Aztec performers, to the breath taking cathedral, and the old government building which is a world visual education about the history of Mexico, (DID YOU KNOW??? Mexico city has three layers to it, the ancient Aztecs, the colonial/ Spaniards, and the modern all built on top of a lake!... ooh and it’s sinking too.. )
All and all… good festive fiestas, good ‘day in a life of a Mexican in D.F’, great food, fun times ☺
Ooh and I almost forgot, I packed a night early, because I wanted to go to class in the morning, so I wrote a note to the boys (who already knew) to bring my Spanish homework on top of my luggage ASWELL. THANK YOU, for bringing the Spanish homework boys, but the luggage would’ve been nice too… SO I spent 5 days without clothes, money, and toiletries. Not the worse 5 days, but certainly not the most convenient… but hey, …. It happens.
Still love ‘em, Love YOUs,
love…….
Me ☺
