071007 Utah & Idaho

I drove to Denver from Boise in twelve hours, but it was a tough drive. On the way back I decided I’d take two days. Last night I found a place to camp in eastern Utah. Just as I was driving past a huge stand of Aspen trees that still had their golden leaves on them I saw a sign for Aspen Grove Campground.

I pulled off the highway and found the campground about five miles down a dirt road. There wasn’t much of an aspen grove there, more pine than anything. I had seen a few rutted dirt roads on the way so I headed back and found a really sweet spot on the side of a mountain facing the setting sun. I got out of my truck and took a whole slew of pictures trying to catch the light filtered through the golden, dying aspen leaves. I’m really glad I decided to leave stuff at Base because I slept in my truck and it was still really cold. In the morning my windshield was covered in ice.

I’ve written every blog entry since getting off of my last trip today, with the exception of the very beginning of the Crater Lake entry. I’m in Twin Falls and I stopped to see Shoshone falls, a great set a falls that are part of the Snake River. There’s a park by the falls which I spent about four hours in before my laptop ran out of juice.

The changing colors of the aspen leaves in Colorado and Utah and whatever trees are here in this park are beautiful. I’ve never been anywhere where the trees change color in the fall. Seeing this makes me really excited to see them next year on the east coast, where I hear they’re even better.

I’m off to another two weeks at work, this time hopefully not in a youth group. After my two weeks I’ll be going back to Phoenix and to my cousin Celise’s wedding. I’m really excited to go back home. I’ll be getting off work on the 24th and will leave in the evening so I can get a few hours of driving in. I should be back in Phoenix by mid afternoon on Thursday the 25th.

My Wilderness First Responder class is starting on Nov 7th, so I don’t have to be back to Idaho until then. I’ll be leaving Phoenix on Monday the 5th. It looks like I’ll be spending Thanksgiving at work and then after that I should be in Wyoming guiding dogsleds for a few months.

I’m eager to come back home, during that week if you don’t hear from me…give me a call!
