Lesley and I
Wierdly enough, Lesley isn't swearing, this is aparently the amercia sign for Peace; that took a lot of getting used to! The last few weeks have been a bit crazy; I have had far too much work to do and not nearly enough sleep, but here is what I can remember…
Saturday night; cowboy karaoke. After donning our cowboy outfits we endured a rather frustrating taxi ride where the driver got lost but still charged us full wack. Taxis just aren’t the same here. However we finally got there, and started chatting away. There was a really large group of us which was good. We decided to be terribly British (or terribly annoying) and sing the Spice Girls; and we were rewarded by being left until the end, they were obviously hoping most people would have left and been spared. We also did a rather good rendition of cellblock tango; being acting students there was no need to even look at the words. And Carly knew the entire Russian bit off by heart.
So there was music and dancing. Lots of dancing; they even moved all the tables back for us. Some guy persistently tried to persuade me to audition for his shows, but I’m not sure he was completely genuine, but I may pass on my CV anyway, you never know.
Graham and Amy
Graham has proper LA teeth baby So Sunday morning was spent mostly recovering and catching up on sleep before Lolly and I had another big night; Hollywood! Emily (a girl from our dance class) took us out with her friends to a club in Hollywood where there was a hip-hop competition going on. After being there about 10 minutes, Lolly and I soon started to realise that we were the only white people there, but it was all fun. So we were greatly entertained by the dancing, and then did some not so impressive dancing of our own. My feat of achievement was lasting all night in heels; something I have avoided for over a year. I did have to rest my feet at one point, and one of the guys who worked there took pity on me and got me some free water; result.
So after dancing until we dropped we went back to Elaine’s for the night, rising very late in the morning again and making muffins. We eventually left for the beach, getting there far too late for parking and so instead went and whiled away our time at ‘Fashion Island’; one of the most expensive malls around. But there was a
Forever 21 (like H&M) so we spent most of our time in there. So back we came that evening, to the nagging feeling that I finally realised was that I had done barely any work, despite having a 4 day weekend; and I had some serious catching up to do.
So the next few days passed in a blur of work and sleep, until on Wednesday, much in need of sleep, we had to stay up fixing our bathroom door which had managed to lock itself. How is that even possible? It was a dire situation indeed, as I desperately needed the toilet. Two hours later we had taken the entire door handle off (using Handy Amy’s tools) and I had worked out how to open it. Yes, that would be me who worked it out. We shall make a handy man of me yet.
On Friday I auditioned for the ‘One Acts’, each directing major does a One Act play as part of their assessments, which are performed in the theatres. I think the audition went ok; I knew most of the directors there so hopefully that will work in my favour!
Friday night; toga party. I had
hats
So... I still manage to steal hats at every opportunity been looking forward to this all week. So off I went to target to buy Amy and I sheets for the occasion. However, when we turned up wrapped in full lengths sheets we were informed that that’s not how people really do it here. And they got out the scissors. Needless to say, my costume was soon dramatically reduced. The party was at a fraternity house which was really fun. And we spent most of the night on the crowded dance floor, realising that everyone else was still wearing less than us.
Today I have chilled, wasted 2 hours of my life watching Legally Blonde and not getting any work done. Tomorrow off to the beach with the musical theatre girls which should be a lot of fun.
Other exciting news;
I have a bed. A proper bed so I can now get some proper sleep. Although it’s fairly small and very high off the ground so I am waiting to fall of it in the middle of the night.
We had a cockroach in our kitchen. Twice. It must have been the same one, as the first time we only succeeded in shutting it in a drawer. I
food before the club
We went to a chinese restaurant and I think I had enough noodles to feed me for a month had to deal with it myself, trying to be slightly more mature and less pathetic than Amy was being about it, although that was very hard. I was on the phone to Matt at the time so I’m sure he would be able to re-call the girly screams.
Also we have been having quite a few earthquakes here at the moment. I was in bed and it felt like someone had just sat on the end of it. Very strange feeling. It moved Amy’s bed about a foot away from the wall. The epicentre was just up the road. It’s all very exciting!
