Seal watching in the harbour So, Sunday morning, off we went to Corona Del Mare beach, which was beautiful. Being here made me appreciate the saying 'golden sand'. I have never seen sand like it. When the waves were twirling it around in the shallows, it looked like it was gold dust, like there were shavings of gold in the sand. It glinted. It was idyllic. And the water was so clear. I was out at waist high and I could still see my feet, like there was just air in between. So subsequently we saw lots of tiny fish in shoals, and we also saw a couple of huge fish, about the size of my arm. One of them was swimming in a very suspicious manner, a kind of 'der na der na der na' kind of way. It definitely looked like a small shark, and the others thought so too, so I may perhaps have swam with sharks. Well, a shark. A tiny shark. But still, it's something else to tick off on my list.
There were also seals in the harbour, to add to the exciting creature spotting day. And they were huge. Everyone was laughing at me for being so excited by
the seals, but apart from the Isles of Scilly, I don't think I've ever really seen any in the wild.
So we spent most of the day lying on the beach, needless to say I came back with lobster legs, but it was worth it.
On Monday I had re-calls for the One Acts, which was very exciting. The one on Monday night I think went really well, and I was surprised that I managed a convincing improvisation, as it's really not a strength of mine. However, Tuesdays didn't go so well. But despite my fears, I had a 3rd re-call for Jenny’s piece. Which I didn't get in the end, but I had a go. I will find out if I am cast on Monday, but I think the chances are slim.
I should also have an audition for a full length film on Thursday, if I can find someone to take me there. And an audition for a musical on Monday or Tuesday, neither of which I could actually do, as they are rehearsing/shooting further than walking distance, but constantly auditioning is really helpful.
I nearly had another audition for a film. I saw posters up so emailed

crazy dancing, im not sure why, but thats musical theatre people for you... my CV. They replied saying 'Are you comfortable with nudity and can you send more pictures'. So I said no I wasn't, sent no more pictures, and haven’t heard back. Methinks it sounds a bit dodgy; something to steer well away from.
Thursday day was the start of the 50 anniversary celebrations for Calstate, whereby they basically just give away free stuff. I got; a hotdog, candy floss, root beer smoothie (which I threw away, because it was just terrible), a snowcup (because they had run out of cones)
Then also there were people advertising things. So I did my 'stupid English' act and walked around asking about things and basically getting all the free stuff; a blow up pink guitar, some Knotts Berry Farm biscuits, an eye patch, a sticky hand, two key rings and lots of vouchers. The Knotts Berry Farm stand was advertising Halloween so I had a lovely talk with some scary people in suits and masks.
Thursday evening Lolly and I went to a hip-hop class which was brilliant. I actually found it quite easy to pick up, much easier than modern anyway. And after initial self-consciousness, started to really enjoy it. Then we stayed over at Emilys house and then went to Hollywood the next day for a jazz funk class. This was a bit strange and we had to pretend to have wings and toenails in our cheeks, but it was also very good fun and definitely a work out.
Plus, we saw the sign! I actually screamed when I saw it. It's really quite big. I tried to take pictures but we were too far away. So, Hollywood sign, check. Next, the walk of fame hopefully...
Friday night, after rushing back, we watched Concert Under the Stars. They do it every year for the alumni and all the sponsors as a way to raise money for scholarships etc. So all our friends from musical theatre were performing which was amazing. Also one of the guest artists was the woman we saw play Miss Saigon when we went to see it in the Hippodrome, which was interesting.
We were treated like royalty, the guy on the entrance tried to tell me that we had to sit on the grass with all the other international students, in this tiny sectioned area, until I informed him that actually we were personal guests of Susan Hallman (the coordinator of the entire performing arts department, who hosted the show) and we were soon apologised to and sent off to sit on a purple table, enjoying free food and wine, and excellent entertainment.
And the party afterward was pretty good too! We went back to Jeff, Ryan and Greg’s house where there was a proper house party, I have never seen so many people! So I mingled with lots of people, and then spend the last few hours looking after Graham, who was celebrating his 21st birthday in style, curled over a toilet. Classy.
Today has been fairly chilled, I slept most of the morning then rehearsed for acting.
In other news;
Nick, a directing major, asked me to be in his directing scene. It's only a short one, and is being shown this Friday, but I'm pleased that people are asking. I feel wanted!
I met our neighbour, who works at Disney as an artist, and says he will take Amy and I and get us in free, yay! (although lots of people have said that and then haven’t...)
I have a personal writer to write a 10 minute play based on me, or a character that is very similar to me (and her and I share an avid love of Terry Pratchett, so it could be an interesting piece...)
