pirate party
We bought a pinyata and everything. Although we didn't have anywhere to hang it so it's still in our lunge now full of sweets... So after being nearly half way through my trip, I finally get to see some sights. But first off, I have to mention the pirate party.
As you should all know, September 19th is’ International Talk Like A Pirate Day’. Obviously something to celebrate. However this being a Wednesday night, and the theatre department owning people's souls and all, we had a honorary talk like a pirate party on Friday 21st. Amy and I got very into it, although entirely at the last minute. So Friday afternoon we were running around like crazies, getting costumes, decorations, food etc. But it was worth it. Much piratey funness was had. There were about 50 people in our tiny apartment, nearly all dressed in pirate attire. And it was a very good night. Us English know how to throw a party.
So, back to the sight seeing. My first sight, and something that I had said I would see every weekend... was Disney, hooray, finally! Amy, Adam, Graham, Casey, Alyssa, Lori and I went to Disney that evening. We started in California Adventure, which is next door to Disney. Where we went on 'Soaring' where you fly over the world, and on 'The
arrrr
See, most people made an effort Tower of Terror' which was just a drop, but had an authentic story about broken elevators and being frozen in time. But from the top of the drop you can see all over California, which was an amazing sight, for the whole half a second that we hovered there.
Then on to Disney, the place where dreams come true. And they do. I was very disappointed that the Disney characters go off to have bed time stories read to them at 6pm, so we missed them. But I will see them next time. Disney somewhat surprised me, it was much less roller-coastery than I was anticipating. It was much more family orientated, and the rides weren't as scary as Disneyland Paris. But it was incredible, the queuing for the rides itself was an adventure, and must have cost millions. Also I had Graham in my ear telling me that there are 1995 skulls on the Indiana Jones ride because that was the year it was built. And which queues were a foot shorter than the others. He is such a Disney geek. But I suppose most people in California are; otherwise, why live there?
But yes, Disney was amazing,
pinyata fun
I think the pinyata did suffer a lot of abuse throughout the night the scale of it was just incredible, and there were so many smaller, unique rides. Like Buzz Lightyear where you get to go around in a car and shoot at all the baddies, it was great fun. I was a level three shooter, yes!
I can't remember what happened the rest of that weekend or the week, time passes in a blur of work, trying to dance, being teased about my accent and learning lines. I have come to learn that Americans are stupid. They all think I'm stupid because I asked if anyone wanted cutlery. Apparently cutlery is silverware, even if it is plastic. How ridiculous is that? I did have fun educating them on this matter.
On Friday I did Nicks directing scene, after learning the script in two days, I have no idea how. It went well and then we re-did it the following Friday where I had to be more angry, easily accomplished. I have also been asked to be in another two directing scenes since then, so I feel very popular. It must be the accent.
I have also started rehearsals for the One Act I am in; 'The Man who Couldn't
Katie and I
Katie came at 11, after closing at a bakery, so she brought two bags full of boxes of cookies, cakes, pastries, it was great, they lasted for about a week after Dance'.
Where I introduce my ex-boyfriend to my baby, have a blazing row with him and then tell him not to pick the baby up or he will wake her up. I'm not sure how that works, maybe in America babies don't react to shouting and screaming...
Friday night was Carly, Niki and Peter's birthday party. I got to wear my ball dress (thank you Rachael) again which was nice, as it was a cocktail party. Graham didn't get drunk this time so that was a bonus. But it was a strange night, everyone seemed a bit distant. But it was still fun.
Saturday; HOLLYWOOD. Yeah baby. Well, now I have been I can officially say that it was, er, interesting. I think seeing the sign was the most exciting bit! It is much more commercialised that I was expecting, and I know that sounds like a very naive thing to say. But I thought it was a celebration of talent, and that in itself brought the tourist. That was until I found out that Matt Damen, Arnold Swatzenegger, and stupid Harry Potter have hand prints. Daniel Radcliff?? I ask you, what is the world coming to? He
has as much talent as a piece of wood. And Marilyn Monroe’s star was outside McDonalds, which made me very sad.
However, despite Hollywood not being quite what I had expected, we made the most of it. Sitting on the sidewalk in our Hollywood attire by every star we recognised the name of. And then, obviously, we went shopping. Just because I didn't overly like Hollywood does not mean that I can't have a top, shot glass, T-shirt, keyring, and clacker board with Hollywood on it, right?
That evening we were craving something English, something normal after this day of crazy fakeness. So we had roast dinner. We have not forgotten our traditions, and I felt much more normal after some roast potatoes and gravy. Then we watched some chick flicks, and Lolly got annoyed because I guessed both storylines within five minutes.
The next week was also a blur of work. But the dancing is starting to become less 'trying to dance' and I am started to look less like an elephant on an ice-rink. And I can actually touch my toes. Well, I can touch the toes on my left foot. Maybe I have different length
the group
I don't the photographer was comletely sober though legs. But
anyway, I see this as a great achievement, and not half a one. It is hardly my fault that I have wonky legs.
Thursday evening I did some radio work. Eric has written me a monologue and we recorded these for Titan Radio. At every re-take Susan Merson (who said I wasn't good looking enough to play any main parts or be on TV) was shouting at me to get angry and let go. I can't wait to hear them. And next week we are recording a 10 minute play so that should be exciting.
Friday night was the first performance of Mother Courage. We didn't go but that didn't stop Amy and I crashing the after show party at TGI Fridays. Where we experienced a rather exotic range of cocktails, and I learned true fear when trying to find another party we ended up wondering in and out of frat houses at 2 in the morning. My mind was telling me this wasn't the safest thing to be doing, so Mike and Amy luckily came and picked me up, after I was contemplating walking.
Yesterday I went to an English Grocers. Amazing; a little
carly and I
Well, it was her birthday, so I would have been unnatural for me not to have been holding her up piece of home.
So Amy and I just had a lunch of proper English sausages, mash and Bisto gravy. I also have blackcurrant squash, a Yorkie, Crunchie, cornish pastie and mature cheddar cheese. This makes me very happy. I think I may have to go now and clear some room in my fridge. I think I will start with the Yorkie.
