Well I am back in the good ole USA. I have been here now for a little over three weeks, during which time I have visited with family and friends (which is always good) and ate a lot of good pizzas (which isn't good with spedo season just around the corner)! I have replaced my laptop which was stolen, bought a few new lenses, and now I am ready to hit the road again. For this leg of my around the world journey, I will be traveling (or trying to) travel in the US. This won't be easy since I don't have a car. So, what does a monkey on a lady's head, a guy with tattoos, Cuba and Wrigley field have in common? they're some of my latest photos!
Before I get too long winded below are a few good web sites for fellow travelers and non-travelers alike.
Staying connected - you can have a local number and have it forwarded to any phone in the world: what you do is get a skype in number and then forward that number, see links below. my skype in number is 01-847-380-2754, which is currently forwarded to my
cell phone 01-224-321-9653. i could get a local number in england, germany, france, Nz ... and have them all forwarded to another number! How sweet is that!
skype - get a "phone number", called skype - in
skype - in and you can forward this number to any phone in the world through -
call forwarding and now there is skype-pro which allows you to call international numbers from your cell phone at local rates!
skype-pro Here is a new website from Ebay, check it out!
stumbleupon - With StumbleUpon you'll discover great websites, videos, photos, blogs and more — all tailored to your personal interests. i put in travel and photography and some "cool" sites came up when I clicked on the "stumble button".
Here is a new travel site that will pay you for your photos!
zoomandgo - make money with your videos. With your new Zoom And Go account, you can share your experiences and inspire others with your videos, pictures and reviews of what you've seen and experienced today or what you saw and did last week (and where you stayed if you went somewhere!).
In fact, thanks to people like you, Zoom
And Go has the largest collection of videos and pictures from people sharing their experiences, tips and advice on videos and in pictures from around the world.
Not only will you be helping others with your contributions, you'll earn points for any videos and pictures that are accepted to the site - points that can be redeemed for cash.
What's more, you'll be meeting people around the world like you. All you've got to do is fill out your member profile to get you started!
OKAY, back to the blog.
I have been accused of being anti American in my blogs. No kidding. Is that what happens when we open our eyes and see what impact we have on the world and the people. one thing you learn from traveling is this - we are all the same, no better, no worse, we are all people with the same needs and wants. As Mark Twain said - "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness" . The number one question that I am always asked is ........... are you ready for this? I am sure a lot of you can guess - "aren't you afraid?"
I don't know if this is a result of 911 or what. But without fail it is always that. And when I tell people I want to go to Se Asia next, they say, "why do you want to go there". To my firends down under, all the americans say "I would like to go to Australia and NZ" so keep up the good work.
Now, getting back to my travel plans. In the US if you don't have a car it is very difficult to get around once you are outside the major metropolitan areas. For example, I am trying to go from the Chicago area to Duluth Minnesota. My choices are fly which with transportation to the airport will cost about $400. take a train to Minneapolis, first i have to get to the train station - taxi, then from Minneapolis to Duluth which would mean over night in Minneapolis and then getting to the greyhound station, or taking the greyhound (bus) which will take 12 hours and is not very comfortable. For some reason you have to change buses at 1:30am. So I opted for another choice, a Friend of a friend is going to take
me up there, we leave tomorrow and it will only take about 7.5 hours!
On Monday I will take off with my buddy Dave, his son and 15(?) other people to go on a fishing trip to Canada. I have been looking forward to this trip for a while, I went on it a few years ago and it should be a lot of fun. After that who knows? I think I may head up to Ely, Minnesota and spend a few weeks there.
SE Asia and Aus/NZ is still on the list!
Cheers,
Dave
