Going to SE Asia in Jan. with students Hey Dave,
Remember me? It's so cool to see photos of places and people I know. Thanks for the update. I think I just missed you by a couple of weeks last year when you were in Sapa. I was in SE Asia for December and January.
At last, my Leadership course and Outdoor Adventure course that I have been working on was approved by my university so this Jan-Feb. I will be taking 5 students with me through Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam...should be a lot of fun.
I'm also going to spend a little time after the course trying to find one of my little girls--Lala--from Sapa. She went missing several months ago and has not been heard of since. I'm in touch with her older sister from time to time. The good news is that we may have a lead. There is another young girl who recently returned to her village after being missing for some time. This girls says that she saw La in the same house where she was living. I'm going to speak with this girl and hopefully get enough information which will lead me to where La may be. It appears that La was taken against her will so I will try to find her and bring her back to her family. Wish me luck!
Enjoy your time being back, maybe we'll meet on the road again.

Stunning I do not think it possible to improve this picture, it is as close to perfect as you could get. It should have pride of place at any future "photo party".

Great pix Hi Dave
I really enjoy reading your blogs about your travels in SE Asia. Hearing your accounts when we met in Ayuthaya and Kanchanaburi was interesting enough but seeing the photo accompaniment adds much to the narrative. Do you plan another trip back to this part of the world soon?

Not Fair!! You beat me to Mongolia. I am stuck here in Maine ( not that bad really...I live in a very beautiful place) until October.
Photos are great. Keep in touch.
congrats Looks like you'll be getting a lot of attention now that you've been nominated to be the blogger of the week. I'm not sure how you've been missed all this time. Can't wait to continue to read your stories.
Phong Saly is nice dear traveler,
I worked/lived in Phong Saly in development work from 2003-2006 and still work there on occasion. You have nice photos here and we encourage all visitors to Phong Saly to please observe and respect local customs and traditions and keep it a good place for polite tourism. It is a special place in the world.
great flicks I was in the area in March, but the fields were burning, too much
smog so I hauled ass out of there.
I appreciate the flicks, awesome. I did assist a family in the north of
Laos with medicine, but then I left, rivers were low, land travel ugly,
so I moved on.

Thanks for taking the time to read my TravelBlog. Originally from the Chicago area i received my BS from northern Illinois University and after graduating I started my "career" at Abbott Laboratories. While there I earned my MBA from DePaul, Univiersity. Then I dropped out of the corporate world in 1992 when I moved to Minnesota. Next, I dropped out of the rat race in 1997 and I've been traveling since. For the first few years I only traveled in the US, working one summer in Yellowstone national park and I spent two summers in Alaska. I also had the great fortune to be a rafting guide ... full info
