Edit Blog Post
Hello again,
Hey listen all, thanks very much for all your comments and messages. I have so many from you all and its good to hear that my blogs are of interest. I also checked out my stats and 548 people have read my blogs so far so theres a lot of strangers out there visiting them. I also had a guy email me for accomodation advice - I wonder if I should start up a backpackers handbook..........................oh bugger thats been done 😊
Well I am now writing from the city of sin - Bangkok, in the backpacker nirvana that is Khao San Road. But I'll recap the past few days for you and bring you up to speed.
I met so many people on Phi Phi that apart from the first night when I arrived, I was never really alone. I met people on the boat trips, on the beach and in the bars. Most of them are English and to be honest there are so many that I can't believe theres any true English people left in the country. I've also met some Sith Ifrican guys that were actually nice and not "a bunch of
arrogant Boerstards that smell like baboons" ( Spitting Images 'I've never met a nice South African' - look it up on the net ). So many other nationalities and of course I also managed to meet the only other Perthite in Asia - small world etc etc.
I liked Phi Phi so much that I extended my stay for 2 days. On Thursday I decided to take it a bit easy and spent more of the day on the beach people watching, swimming and of course chatting to stangers. I think I may have learned to relax at last.
On Friday I decided do a full days boat trip. At this point in time I have to say that I'd noticed so many people wandering around with cuts, grazes, plasters and so on which is to be expected given the nature of the activities. I was quite pleased with myself for having no injuries..........oh how the mighty have fallen. Half an hour into the boat trip I decided to go down stairs into the bottom of the boat to get some water and I slipped and slid down the last 3 steps on my arse and back. Four
toes on my left foot got bent but luckily didn't break. I now have a solid dark purple bruise about the size of a tea saucer on one arse cheek and two slightly smaller ones on my back. I can only sleep on one side comfortably. It wasn't the end of my day luckily because you know how it goes - a bit sore on the day, but its the next day that it hits you. Apart from that I had a great day and it ended with a vist to Monkey Island where the 'tame' monkeys come down to the beach to get fed from tourists. I had a tug of war with one monkey who wanted a bag I was holding in my hand. I won and felt quite the man 😊 Huring myself wasn't over and later that night when going to the toilet in one of the bars, I forgot that the Thais seem to have a habit of building door frames that are only 5.5 foot high and yep you've guessed it, I smacked the whole top of my head into the frame. No bleeding but I did lose a few layers of skin. So
quite a painful day. After all this I went to an open air bar that has a full size Thai boxing ring in the middle. After watching a couple of the locals kick and punch the crap out of each other, the challenge goes out to tourists to either compete against each other or, if you actually do know some kicking boxing, against a local. It was lots of fun with plenty of 'windmill' and 'hitting fresh air' style boxing that drunken idiots tend to use on each other in real fights. I would have loved to try it but A) I'd already had a few beers and I felt you needed to be completley sober to avoid injury and B) my body ached from the previous accidents.
Saturday morning it was time for my torturous 13 hour trip to Bangkok. Not much sleep on the bus, a sore body and a cold ( again !! im on my third cough and cold now ). Got into Bangkok at 4:00am and at the point that my second foot touched the pavement from leaving the bus - "tuk tuk !!", "taxi !!", "where you going !!" I sneered at one guy out of sheer annoyance and shook my head to show that this really wasn't the time to be touting me. After a quick chat in burger king with another backpacker I checked into another great midrange backpackers with all the previously mentioned mod cons but it also has a swimming pool ! I need to go to the Vietnamese embassy tomorrow to get my visa and will probably move on pretty quick after that.
I have just been and made my first singlet purchases. So Nik, those 3 singlets ( that I got in Bangkok 8 years ago ) that you have seen me wearing every weekend and every holiday for the past three years are finally going into retirement. I won't spend $10 in Oz for a singlet but Im happy to wait 8 years to spend $5 on them here 😊
Thanks again for your many messages, sorry I cannot reply to all of them but be assured they are appreciated.
I have taken a picture of my arse bruise, but im not sure whether to put it on a blog..........

Plums!
Please try to stop taking photo's of you with no clothes on!! I, for one, do NOT want to see a photo of your bruised arse! Not much happening here, but I do go for my driving test tomorrow and my citizenship interview, practicing speaking with plums in gob furiously and not missing out too many small words. Wish me luck!! Keep having fun mate.
