Last week I visited some more of Gaudi's architecture. I saw Casa Mila, also called "La Pedrera", the stone quarry. It was an apartment building in the beginning of the century, but now more or less, offices and... occupy the building. It's architecture is amazing from the layout of the building with it's courtyards to the facade that's very unique, to the rooftop that is just amazing. From inside out, the building is very unique, not only it's ornamentaly unique, but the construction of Gaudi's creations is just genius. The rooftop with it's winding paths, with a touch of Gaudi's design on it's chimneys offers a great view and you can see Sagrada Familia which I also visited this week. In Casa Mila they had an exhibit of Gaudi's architecture with models, plans, etc describing his works. It was a great lesson in architecture, which I for sure enjoyed.
My next stop was the Sagrada Familia, which is usually on everyone's list the first day when visiting Barcelona. People told me not to go inside because there is nothing to see, and that it's just a construction site. Well, it is, but I absolutely loved it because it's a huge
construction site. It's not just a construction site, it's a construction site of the Sagrada Familia. The facade is unbelievable, because of it's many details. However, the interior is, well will be great if it's ever finished. The columns are of the most original construction. They are designed to mimic trees and it is definetely successful and when finished it will be a beautiful forest of columns. I also got to go up in one of the finished towers and saw the city and the construction from up there, I felt like I was the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Walking around in small spaces, the staircases, a unique experience! They also had an exhibit of Gaudi's work on the Sagrada Familia which was very interesting to me.
I also went to look at Palau Guell which is a block away from Teatre Liceu. However, I only got to see it from the outside and some of the interior because they were not letting any more people in at that time. From the outside it looked kind of grim, unlike his other works. The facade is dominated with wrought iron giving this townhouse a very dark look, the interior looked
The columns
that mimic the trees very dark and cold as well. But, let's not judge yet, I'll come back and give an update.
I love visiting Gaudi's works, and there's still so much more to see. Strangely enough, I did miss out on something when I visited Park Guell. I missed the lizard! Everyone is shocked, but for some reason when I went to the park a few weeks ago, I somehow missed the famous lizard which I'm sure everyone has seen in pictures. I think it's funny that I didn't see it, people come from all over the world to see that lizard. But, as I always say to myself, I have to leave something for next time.
