Wishing to meet some Americans or Russians during my first weeks here, I was glad to find out that my neighbors are from Russia. I found that out one night when I was talking on the phone, actually I was screaming and I woke them up. Well, they told me that Barcelona even has a couple of Russian food stores and I found one of them this weekend. It's called Troika, what else could it be right? It's located right in the heart of the city, on Las Ramblas. I was meeting someone and not even searching for the store I saw it. I went in there, and looked around as if I was on a tour. It was so cool, Russian music playing, lots of Russian people and all kinds of Russian food, books, etc. I only bought ice cream cause I wasn't going home, it was yummy. I waited for my Swedish friend, at Theatre Liceu and noticed that the opera "Boris Godunov" was playing this week.
After a met up with my Swedish friend, we went up on the Columbus statue that's located at the end of Las Ramblas, near the sea. Most people think it's just a statue, but yes, you can go up and look at a great view of Barcelona and the city. And to those who are wondering why there's a statue up there, people here believe that Colon is from Catalunya. After walking around the Rambla del Mar, it's a bridge that leads to a pier that has a movietheatre, a mall, and an aquarium, which I am told is the largest in Europe, she had to go work and I went back on Las Ramblas towards home. I thought how great it would be to go to the Opera and came up to the box office and bought a ticket for ten bucks, it was 15 minutes before the show. The opera was great, how weird it was, sitting in Teatre Liceu in Barcelona listening to a Russian Opera. The interior of the theatre is gorgeous, but stupidly designed for sure. They have a few sections from where there is no view of the stage, they even tell you about those sections when you're buying the tickets. I just don't get it! But, I had a good seat and even learned some Catalan because the subtitles above the stage were in Catalan.
When it ended, people were clapping for 15 minutes, the actors received flowers like they used to in the past, it was great!

My russian weekend continued cause yesterday I spent the day with my Russian neighbors. We went to the movies to see "The Bourne Identity", but we saw it in Spanish. It was so funny, sitting in a movietheatre in Barcelona with Russian guys and watching an American movie. It was a good day, and I brushed up on my Russian cause they don't speak any English.

From Russian Barcelona, with love. marina
