Viva Las Vegas - I do!Viva Las Vegas - I do!Viva Las Vegas - I do!

Could it get any better?
Sorry to those of you who either have heard and don't want to again, or to those of you I have not had the chance to tell in person yet...but it is true. Daren and I eloped to Las Vegas!

Yes, it is kind of sudden and crazy, but over the past few months we were thinking that we should do it now so that immigration will not be a nailbiting, tense situation next year when her student visa runs out. This way we can decide
to stay in the USA or leave on our own terms, and not because "The Man" thinks law-abiding citizens like ourselves should not be able to stay here We decided that getting married at the town hall was much too bland, so we opted for a trip to VEGAS and invited our 2 friends from Boston. As a couple others found out about our plans ... they opted to join us (notably some of our family)...so all in all we were 10 sharing the experience in the adult playland of sin city. We did not skydive with Elvis, nor did we Jailhouse Rock down the aisle. It was a very sedated yet fun

The adult playland...
ceremony that took all of 15 minutes, and pictures included stretched it to an hour and 15 mins. Daren managed to make me laugh by emphasizing "in POVERTY and in health", and give me his right hand rather than his left for the ring. Ha ha. My fault too - I should have recognized it! Honestly, when it came time to talk...I was like - what? I have to speak??!! I wasn't sure anything would come out! It felt special and normal (?). We had a great time and would not have traded it for the world. However, we cannot feel married without a proper party - so will be doing that in Canada (sorry Westerners...it will happen in Kingston) next 4th of July.

It was a whirlwind 5 days of fun in the sun, gambling in airconditioning, and lots and lots of good eats! Believe it or not...Las Vegas is one of the top spots for high-end restaurants these days! Who knew? One day of course was dedicated to the big event....we tied the knot at the Little Chapel of the Flowers....but the rest was divided up between exploration of the imitated great wonders of the world, maxin'

and relaxin' by the pool, and horseback riding in Red Rock Canyon. I'm afraid I can't give details of that morning...brings back some harsh memories of how ill we all felt after the night before with my brother at a Vegas club called ICE. Thanks Brett.

Some of you are likely surprised that I ever set foot in Vegas...doesn't really match my vision of sustainable tourism. But others of you will know that I have been dying to see Cirque du Soleil "O" (it is as good as they say - I sat on the edge of my seat the whole time! Divers...imagine diving off of a swinging pendulum see-saw like device....at another group of divers diving off another of the same...wow) And a constant group of divers doing push off back dives off of the ground at any given time. All male high divers though....disappointing to say the least 😉

Over all I have to say that Vegas is breathtaking...first of all you lose your breath when you step off the plane into 100 degree dry heat. And then you are in awe as the casino slot machines begin at the departure/arrival gate. The lights and sheer size of the buildings are incredible. But, the views from Red Rock Canyon are truly spectacular. Nothing like I had ever seen before. Ok...kind of like Drumheller, AB....but not. (no hoodoos for example)

Well congrats to you! I can't believe you picked Vegas... glad to hear it was fun. I would love to see some pictures - especially of your hubby - don't think I would have met him. Hope things are going well - you certainly talked me into a visit to Knoxville... unfortunately this year's vacation is already booked to France but next year maybe? Been too long... Congratulations again!
