one of the big...
Hi everyone! Oh my god, I'm so glad to be back in Barcelona. For those who don't know I went on a little trip this weekend to Frankfurt to visit my cousins. I left Saturday morning and arrived back last night. How I missed Barcelona and its warm weather.
This past weekend was a holiday weekend full of celebration here in Barcelona. But, luckily I got to be part of it on Friday. It was funny and strange when I got out of the apartment friday morning. Everything was closed, and I mean everything, well except for a store here and there with the signs that say Asian Bazaar. The celebrations were in all parts of Barcelona, with events and concerts happening in all the plazas. For the first time in my life I actually stood and waited for a parade in Plaza Jaume. The parade was mostly huge people, I mean the costumes were huge, maybe 15 feet high that were depicting known characters of Spain, such as Gaudi, Dali, and Queens, Kings, etc. It was their traditional parade and everyone was enjoying it. Even though it was nice to experience, we quickly got bored and started walking away. It's definetely a great parade for Kids.
On Saturday morning I took a cab to the airport. The taxi driver was oddly enough very nice and would not stop talking to me. I just kept saying "Si, Si" and hoping that he is not asking me any questions. For the entire trip that lasted 20 minutes I must have said "Si" a million times with words like "Claro" which means of course and "Es Verdad" which means it's true here and there. It was hilarious. The flight to Frankfurt was 2 hours, but seemed like forever. So I don't know how I will survive the flight back to New York. The plane flew over the coast of Barcelona. It was beautiful! The plane was so low that I could see all of Barcelona. The rest of the flight was unbelievable. The most amazing mountains were below me. I think we were flying over France and I could not turn away from the window. The land looked like the backs of dinosours. Well, anyway it was just amazing. And here and there between the mountains, in some small grooves there were little villages. I wonder how life is down there and what it must feel to be surrounded by mountains.
Finally I arrived to Frankfurt and the city below looked familiar with it's forests, autobahns and small brown/orange rooftops.
I realized how cold it was going to be when the door of the airplane opened and a Spanish man said "mucho frio". Silly me obviously didn't think about checking the weather or asking anyone and went with my flip flops and summer clothes. But, it's winter in Frankfurt now. Everyone was wearing winter coats and winter boots, except for me with my flipflops. So, some advice: always check the weather.
Beside this little clothes crisis that I had this weekend, the weekend was great. My cousin and I didn't tell anyone that I was coming. She picked me up at the airport and we surprised everyone. It was so nerve wrecking to wait for everyone to show up, but it was great. They were definetely surprised.
The flight back last night was amazing as well. I got to see Barcelona with all its lights. I was happy to hear Spanish language again even though I got yelled at by the bus driver on my ride home for not ringing the bell well in advance of my stop. Nevertheless, I was happy to be back in a city of palm treams and "passionate" bus drivers.

good to see some things never change, like certain people spelling words in such a funny way. :)
