In Barcelona!!

Hola!

We flew into Barcelona last evening. It was a bit stressful for us both. Me being sick and Derek being tired. We also realized that we left our phrase book in England at Wilks (probaby got shoved under one of the couches). So that made for some unhappy campers. We got to the Barcelona airport, got to the train, where I proceded to have an anxiety attack. Anyways. We got to the youth hostel we had booked in dropped off our stuff and went to get something to eat. After we dragged our tired buts up the stairs and into bed.

Woke up this morning around noon and then got up, payed for tonight´s stay and headed out for some breakfast. It´s Derek´s first time in a country where he cannot speak the language and he´s scared. He´s scared to speak with the locals and to try out the little spanish he can remember. We went wandering around Barcelona, through shops and got a bite to eat at a vegitarian resturant. I woke up this morning with a terrible head cold. I felt totally out of it and had a migrane/sinus pain/sore throat, but I enjoyed Barcelona none the less. Derek and I picked up another phrase book in an all Spanish book store. It wasn´t very good but we figured it would have to do. On the way back to the hostel we stopped at a booth and found a really good Lonely Planet phrase book. Crap. Then we´d have two. Derek decided he would go and exchange the crappy phrase book and buy the good one. I went to the hostel instead and had a nap. Derek came back with a new phrase book and had an awesome experience getting it. He used what English and Spanish he could and exchanged the book with no problems and then he even went and asked in Spanish where to find the phrase books when he got back to the booth!! He´s doing and awesome job!

To make it all that much better Derek decided I was sick enough to go to the drug store and get me something for my cold. He came back with dinner, juice and nasal decongestant. Good job!! 😊 Anyways. I took some. I´m feeling a bit better now. I´m just leaving to call Pere, the contact for our first farm, to get directions ect. for the ride to the farm tomorrow!! Derek is watching the football game right now (Arsenal is playing).

yay for the good spanish experience! cheers to both of you for taking the non-english country risk. and apparently communication is only 40% verbal. i've seen ppl communicate AMAZING amounts of stuff with creativity. hope you both get some good rest time to recoup! how long is your trip??
