The next bus-ride had it's ups and downs (and very little suspension). On the gloomy side some nicompoop with the flu got on and via the airconditioning gave it to me and at least 3 other people. However back on the sunny side, and much more importantly, we met Katy!

Katy is perhaps the smileyest person I've ever met, did animal sciences at uni (points with pip) doesn't like plans or schedules (points with Jess) reads the New Scientist and even had a copy with her (many points with pip) and is a diehard extravert (gold stars from Jess).
She immediately charmed us by lending us soap in the grimy lunch-stop loo, but we parted ways in Georgetown as we were staying in the city for a bit, and she was on a bee-line for the beach.

Georgetown would have been delightful if I hadn't been coming down with said flu. Lovely architecture for those of us who love peeling paint on quiant alleyway walls.
We visited Snake temple (and cheesily held a python while our picture was taken), and clambered up the steep stairs to Kek Lok Si Temple.

Jess peeled me off my sick bed long enough to get oursleves on a bus beach-bound, and lo and behold there was Katy!! she persuaded us to come and stay at "Miss Loh's guest House" at Talan Bahang, and there we spent a most delightful bunch of days with katy, Phillipe (the crazy-haired Parisian) and Gepo the plain crazy Hong Kongese wizened old lady.

Jess felt sorry for these poor things stuck in dirty water, cramped conditions, food only from tourists, and with the probability of being nicked for soup should they get big enough.

converted?!
Jess, love the top. Glad to see you're slowly being converted to a dirty smelly hippy...

next thing will be thin beaded plaits in your hair...
Yay for beaches, butterflies, and turtles, Pip getting well again, statues galore and hippie tops! (Which will be extremely comfortable for summer in London, too, when you get here. Brits aren't much for air conditioning!) Pip: that's enough being sick now, m'kay? (Maybe you need to drink more dodgy asian liquor to disinfest your insides?) love your missives and pics! hugs x ju
