Scoootliind!
Prestwick tarmack courtesy of Ryan Air So here I am.. broke, alone, permanently disfigured ala
Russia, and totally stoked! After just over 1/3 of a year I'm finally standing on Scottish tarmac - not for long mindue, I've a return ticket to Poland at the end of next week.
One of the things I did manage to do during the timewarp that was Prague was polish my CV and find some Scottish engineering firms who might like to look at it. While London is intriguing, I've found big cities aren't really my thing. And the offer of chilly Scottish highlands and haggis hunting with a goosebumpy kilted Wallace was far more tempting. A Glasweigan guy e-mailed back, and after an hour long phone interview asked me to pay him a visit. So here I am, "on loan" from Eastern Europe...
.. and somewhat like a "pig in muck". I got off at Prestwick feeling very excited, yet relieved that I had a return ticket. On arriving in Glasgow I went to a bookshop - and read stuff, a fish and chip shop and ate stuff, and my err.. hotel (with a tv) to watch stuff.
My pent-up gluttony out of my system, I had an
interview the next day. It was long.. but went well and when we nipped out for a curry after lunch, and then a few too many pints of ale after 5 I knew it was all over. The job's in Glasgow, the firm is big and
international, and the staff don't all wear ties. Best of all I don't start till mid-January, leaving a few days to look round Glasgow, Edinburgh, visit Pete and Carly in Newcastle... and plenty of time to relax in the east before, and after Christmas! 😊
Initial impressions of Glasgow are that it's a big, dense city. It's hard to avoid the old buildings and narrow streets forcing you to look north, south, east, and west. It's also not near the sea.. a change for a Kiwi boy, but should be good. 😊
I'll write a little more soon, time to sit down with the Armstrong-Hall's for a roast dinner...
Evening all! 😊

missing the best
Hey hey Kerry, Congratulations on stealing one of our jobs. I'd better not be getting back to Blighty only to find that I'm being squeezed out of work by an over-qualified and under-employed Scottish geologist! But what's this, you're visiting Scotland and yet you haven't yet visited the most important place: Aberdeen!!!! I hope this is just an oversight on your part which will soon be corrected. Erik (tchecossais).
