After a late-ish night last night, I slept until 9:00am this morning. It was weird going to sleep last night because of all of the strange bird noises that I’m not used to hearing so close! But eventually, I went over. I did wake up at about 3:30 as I was so cold and it’s A/C on, so I turned it off, and took the opportunity to go to the loo, seeing that I’m up already! I soon fell back to sleep though!
I went to the shower block, got shifted, dressed , and went off for my breakfast. The rest of the group were already there when I arrived. It was quite busy, so there was quite a wait! But my scrambled eggs with toast on the side took a while to arrive, I’m not in a hurry! Breakfast was good, the coffee was good. I’m all set for the day.
I spent most of the morning chilling with Angelica. Temu went for a wander through the natural life area that we are situated in. When he came back, he was so excited because he had seen a koala bear in our area. We instantly followed him through
to another area, and just above us was the most beautiful koala, sleeping in its natural environment, up a eucalyptus tree! I was so happy that he shared this with us. As we were walking back to the cafe area, a wallaby renting jumping past is! It was so quick that I didn’t have time to even get my camera out! Honestly, that’s made my day! I’m sure we will have many more opportunities to see the animals, but just seeing those two today has boosted my expectations!
I’m going to have a beach afternoon, but holding back for a while as it is so hot, and there is very little shade on the beach.
At about 1pm, I went for a wander into Horseshoe Bay. I looked around the local shops, which are minimal, so that passed about 5 minutes of my time! . I found a shaded spot on the beach, made my pitch. I think I’m here for a short while. I guess it’ll depend on how the shade works for me!
After about half an hour, I had lost my shaded area! So I moved on to find another one. I had a
really relaxed hour or so, going in and out of the sea. The water is so warm!
I saw Charles, Sarah and Timu arrive, so we got a space together for the rest of the afternoon. We were soon joined by Angelica. We all enjoyed the day on the beach.
Angelica and I went off for an ice cream coffee. We sat chatting for well over an hour. We get on on such a good level. That’s one of the things about travelling on your own, you meet the most amazing like minded people!
The views changed as time passed. The skies changed its colours as the sun went down behind the mountains. It was so beautiful to watch.
Me, Temu and Charles stayed on the beach front for a bite to eat. We were joined by Anna, a Swiss girl who’s travelling alone that has become friendly with the whole group, I’m not really that hungry, so I opted for a simple cheese quesadilla. That was enough for me tonight.
On the way back to Selina’s we saw the Southern Cross. This iconic group of stars is visible mainly from the Southern Hemisphere. Because
of its orientation in the night sky, the Southern Cross has historically served as an essential navigational guide: two of its major stars form a line that points to the South Pole. It is also featured in the flags of several Southern Hemisphere countries.
I originally knew none of this, but it came up in conversation, then between me, Angelica and Charles, we found it tonight! Timu did get a great photo, but I haven’t got a copy off him yet!
The full group met up at the bar for a drink. It’s great as everyone gets on so well, and we always seem to gain a few extras!
All done, I’m going for a shower before bed, as we are leaving The Magnetic Islands tomorrow by ferry to get back to the mainland to continue our journey south.
