Ola Senor and Senoritas!

Well, I know your all chomping at the bit for another Cameron special so here we go with the fabulous Spanish edition of our blog.

After our time in the cold and chilly climate of the mother country, we felt we needed a change of pace, so Meg, Myself, Iain and Carly and Jan, my mum, headed off to sunny Spain for a weekend away. Iain organised some fabulously cheap plane fares and we went to sunny Jerez ( pronounced He-re-thhh ) for a weekend of food and frolics.

On the 17th of November, our trip got off to a rough start with that airport hell that is Stanstead airport. Full of weekend travellers, paranoid security and customs agents and cranky Starbucks staff, it was a relief to get on the plane. After a short two hour trip, we landed at sleepy Jerez International airport. A short cab trip later took us to our hotel, chosen for its location ( 10 mins walk to the town center ), 4 star rooms ( with beds that raised up and down which lead to Homer Simpson moments of " Bed goes up, Bed goes down" )

and a delightful spa and sauna ( closed for winter ). We ambled into town for some beer and tapas, before crashing into bed.

Our next day started with a tour of a sherry vineyard, Tio Pepe's was the name. We were treated to a Disney-esque ride around the estate, seeing everything from the vats they used to brew all the sherry, a very pissed mouse ( mickey, how could you? ) and ended with a sherry taste testing session. We also discovered that none of us like Sherry all that much as it tastes like cleaning fluid and old wine. Blech! We ambled off to an open air cafe and got a nice bit of sunburn and some more tapas. As is the custom of the area, we all had an afternoon siesta before venturing back into the town looking for flamenco! Unfortunately, the dance of passion had cooled and we couldn't find a single place to watch it. So we found a nice restaurant at about 11 o'clock for a very late dinner.

Sunday dawned, as it is want to do, and we jumped on the train to Cadiz. A very old city ( one of the oldest in the world), it is also a summer playground for the Spanish, so it's kind of like a mix of traditional European and Gold Coast glitz. We took one of those hop on, hop off bus tours on an open air double decker to see the town. It had an informative little personal sound system which filled in the boring bits with covers of your favourite spanish porn soundtrack music. We did a loop of the city in about an hour, and found an excellent pizza joint for lunch. After a final stroll down by the seaside, we caught the train back to Jerez for another of those delightful siestas.

We slept late on Monday and while the girls did some window shopping, Iain and I retired to a pub for a few drinks and a serious game of name that celebrity. This went down so well, we found another bar and had a boozy afternoon of tapas, drinks and some more of that warm Spanish sunshine. Having thoroughly covered the delights of Jerez, we piled back onto the plane late on Monday night, to once again wrestle with that demonic hell hole that is Stanstead at the end of the trip. As you may have guessed - not a fan of that airport.

So, that was the Spanish section of the globe trotting extravaganza. We spent Tuesday just pottering around London, visiting Harrods - and maybe one or two more geek stores, I admit - before a final farewell, early Christmas dinner with Jan, Iain and Carly. Wednesday was our last day in dear old blighty and we headed off to one of our last stages: Essen, in Germany!

By the way, guess which flea infested, den of scum and hive of villany we flew out of?
