Editorial Note: Our friends, John and Cindy, wanted to visit Capri during their 9-day stay with us in Sorrento, so they did just that today. Dee and I decided to forgo the walking that would be involved in this excursion, so we stayed close to home. Cindy prepared the following commentary and provided the photos regarding their adventure.

After our intel gathering at Marina Piccola with Mitch and Dee on Tuesday, John and I decided on an 8 am ferry departure on Wednesday to Capri. At 7 am we trekked along the path where Mitch and Dee had helped us leave breadcrumbs the previous day. We were feeling very cosmopolitan and successful until we arrived at the gates leading to Villa Comunale where the lift delivers tourists down to the docks. It all came to a screeching halt when we noticed that the gates into the Villa Comunale were locked, and we didn't have a plan B! When we got closer, we were relieved to read that the gates would open at 7:30, giving us enough time for our ferry departure.

The ferry trip was spectacular, with sunny weather and beautiful scenery. We arrived in Capri, where we sat at an outdoor cafe and ordered pizza. The pizza was downright awful, but the people-watching was great. We then purchased tickets for a trip around Capri, which was a breathtakingly beautiful ride. We had hoped to take a side excursion into the famous Blue Grotto, but high tides and high winds made the Blue Grotto opening impassable today.

We checked our travel guide book (provided by Mitch and Dee), and decided to find transportation to Anacapri, the upper town on the island. After learning the fares for a taxi or private car, we opted for the public bus--how bad could it be?? Turns out it could be very bad! A bus designed to transport 12 passengers carried 25 bodies, squished in like sardines. We were standing for the entire ride, so we saw nothing of the beautiful scenery-just the pavement and lines on the road!

Once we arrived at Anacapri we stopped at a cafe for a beer to recover. It was at this point we decided that, due to the crowds and long entrance lines, we would ditch our return bus tickets and then hightail it back to the docks in a fancy convertible taxi for our return ferry ride, where we could actually see the spectacular views. All in all, it was a wonderful excursion, with some funny memories along the way!

Thrilling Adventures
Cindy and John, thank you so very much for sharing your experiences from today's outing. Point taken not to order the Pizza!! How dreadful that had to be and am sure you both were hungry at this point, the views however, well they had to make up for the food, lol!!! Glad you opted to take a different route back and got to enjoy more of the sights. Cheers to more laughter!! ;)
