I wanted our 3-year anniversary to be special and after hearing some good reviews about a 5-star hotel in Bath I decided to look it up and discovered through my hotel bookings I could save almost a 100 hundred a night on a room. We had originally decided to go away on our actually anniversary at the end of last year but had to cancel the booking on the day due to Fiona's older two kids having a stomach bug and subsequently we were able to rebook 2 weeks later. The reason I wanted to go to bath was because I had seen this hotel called
Mcdonald Bath Spa where some of my work colleagues had stay recently and thought we could also go to the
Thermae Bath Spa but unfortunately learn it is closed when we are staying. Annoyingly, if we had gone the first-time round, we could have done this experience. For now, it will have to stay as a bucket list item. The
Thermae Bath Spa is a rooftop thermal pool that offers stunning views of the city.
We arrive in Bath later than originally planned after having to drop Jovie off with Fiona's family and then
getting stuck in traffic, so once we are checked-in we go to our room where we find bath robes on the bed ready for us to put on. We crack open the champagne and eat some Krispy Cremes and then visit the hotels thermal bath and sauna rooms. The hotel is just what we need right now, as for almost a year, we've not had a night off or time away without a child being present.
Mcdonald Bath Spa is perfect to unwind in an idyllic setting. The thermal pool is both an indoor and outdoor pool and it is just so nice to chill chatting with Fiona.
For dinner, Fiona has reserved us a table at a Greek restaurant in the city centre called
OPA Meze Restaurant. But first, we visit
Las Iguanas, a westernized Latin American restaurant chain that I've mentioned before in a blog as I have gift vouchers to use up and so we go for a cocktail as they do 2-for-1. Their cocktails are the best and the 2-for-1 is an added bonus.
We enjoy a little evening scroll as we walk to
OPA Meze Restaurant appreciating the slights of Bath lit up
at night.
OPA Meze Restaurant appears to be a very popular place to eat out in Bath, which is how Fiona had discovered it. It is her anniversary treat to us. We can see why this place is so popular. The venue is beautiful, lively and ambience. The ceilings are painting with Greek architecture and the brick work is very typical Greece, it really reminds me of being back in Greece. It always nice to reminisce when you visit somewhere, and it brings back those wonderful feelings and memories of somewhere you have visited previously. The last time I went to Greece was 8 years ago and reminds me that it is somewhere I want to go again in the not-too-distant future.
The next day we wake up early to have a cooked breakfast, check-out and use the spa facilities for one last time. After a little relaxation, we enjoy scrolling around the 7-acres of beautiful private grounds of the hotel before taking the car down close to the city centre. The hotel is like 13 mins to the city centre by foot and there are some lovely scenic walks that you can take. We would have walked into
town last night but with the rain and it being dark it was easier to order an Ubbe.
We enjoy a little more relaxation as we causally browse shops and walk around, absorbing the lively and popular city centre. We treat ourselves to afternoon tea at the
Jane Austen Centre. For those not familiar with Jane Austen, she was an English novelist from the 18th-centrury who to this day is very popular. The Regency Team Room is situated on top floor and takes you back in time for an 18th-century afternoon tea experience. The staff are dressed as characters from Jane Austen novels and the tearoom is decorated as if we were back in the Victorian era with pictures of Jane Austen characters everywhere. We both have a Tea with Mr. Darcy, which is served with delicious cakes and divine finger sandwiches, and of course a delightful warm scone with clotted cream and jam.
After a little bit of browsing in the Jane Austen souvenir shop, we are ready to head back home to collect the children and return back to hustle and bustle of family life. Although the trip was short, it was relaxing and just what
we needed.
