Still on the train.

We're stopped in Cook right now, and bloody hell is it ever hot! Its total desert all around. The town is made up of a tourist shop, a few houses, dirt roads and an evacuation point. The wind is HOT. I'd put it around 40 degrees. The tourist shop said it was 30, but I call bullshit on that. I can't understand why people would choose to live in a place like this. It really is the middle of nowhere.
Danielle is loving the heat. She'll be fine wherever we're sent to. I'm worried about me. I can't handle the heat. Not like this anyway.
Sleeping on this bloody train is awful! Damn near impossible! I think I got about an hour of sleep.

About an hour later
We're going along the longest straightway of rail in the world. Over 400km, I think. Its through the Nullarbor Plains. Nullarbor means treeless. And damn, they weren't kidding. Everything has looked the same since Cook...even before Cook. I can see for miles in every direction. Greenish shrubbery type things with red ground in between. It was cool at first but really, enough already.
Also, before I said I don't know how people live in a town like Cook. Turns out, no one does!! lol The town has a population of 4. Yep. Four. Its the most isolated outpost in the world. Its something like 1700 km to Adelaide, and 1200km to Perth. Terrible little town.
I've moved to the Dining Car. My back was killing me in my seat. And the lounge car is full. Somehow, I'm going to manage another day of this. How? I'm not sure.
Before Cook, we stopped in the middle of nowhere. When I looked outside to see why we were stopped, there was someone getting off the train! (there was a car waiting for them). I have no idea where they would have came from! Musta been one hell of a long drive.
Last night we stopped in Coonamia. I'm gonna look it up sometime.

Later again. Almost 2pm
I've officially found hell on earth. The Nullarbor Plains. Its 45 degrees outside, and its caused the engines to cut out. We've been instructed to close all the blinds to try to keep the heat out (not that there's anything to look at). Every so often, the power goes, causing the cars to heat up to obscene temperatures, before the air conditioning starts to work again. We passed a town called Forest. Population: three. There were birds...SWARMS of birds rather, circling the houses, waiting. With this heat, its really only a matter of time. Thankfully, the air conditioning is on in my car right now. Maybe I'll sleep for a bit, since I'm so tired. The water supply is hot. So now I'll have to buy more water instead of getting a refill. The toilets (washrooms, I mean) stink, since the outside temperature is essentially cooking the sewage. Seriously everyone, give this place a miss.
