We left hot, hot Moab and drove to Capitol Reef National Park, with beautiful ever-changing scenery along the way. We saw rain clouds form and it looked like rain falling in places, but decided it must be virga. When we were within 20 miles of Capitol Reef we ran into real rain. Not a drizzle or a shower, but big downpours. They would only last a few minutes, then stop, then pour again. It did cause the temperature to drop from 100 to 64 at one point.
Our campground was at Fruita, which is a beautiful green valley along the Fremont River, full of fruit trees and deer and surrounded by beautiful colorful cliffs. We took it easy all afternoon, letting Timmy ride his bike while we enjoyed the somewhat cooler weather.
Tuesday, 14 July
The cooler night that was forecast was very late in arriving. It was a pretty steamy night until the wee hours of the morning.
After breakfast we took a scenic drive to see what else made this park so special. The colors, the rock formations, the cliffs,
the diversity all were breathtaking. I took so many pictures that it was hard to choose which to post.
Timmy again spent his afternoon riding his bike and watching the deer around the campground.

Last night was much cooler. We all slept better and ended up under covers by morning.
The drive to Bryce Canyon on Highway 12 was an adventure. It was all ups and downs and arounds and arounds. Some grades were as much as 14%, so you know Kerry was not thrilled. The trip was only about 130 miles, but took us close to 3 hours.
We got set up at Sunset Campground in Bryce Canyon National Park and went to see the hoodoos and views from the overlooks. Then we stopped at Sunset Canyon to let Timmy hike down a short trail. He was supposed to make a loop, but missed his turn and ended up taking about a five mile hike. We were near panic by the time he showed up!
Then when we returned to the campground there was a note on
the camper saying we were in the wrong site. I had looked at my notes and read site 208, but it was actually supposed to be site 228. The folks who had reserved 208 agreed to trade sites so we didn’t have to move.
An exhausting few days, but full of beautiful scenery.
