We got up early again for another beautiful sunrise. The plan for the day was to head to one of the national parks we had driven past on our way from Belize City the first day of our trip. We were not sure how far away it was, but we left early so we could get there early enough to book the rappelling tour. We got there about 0845 and the tour was scheduled to leave at 0900. We grabbed some donuts and fruit at the restaurant and booked the tour. We were in a group of 8 total with 2 guides. The guide was very informative about the plants and jungle and gave extensive information at our rest stops on the hike up the Antelope Trail. We stopped to take a look at an overlook and also for a swim in one of the waterfall pools. The pool was very cold mountain water, but it felt good as it was very warm hiking uphill with the high humidity. We has some sandwiches and watermelon and then we geared up to rappel down the falls. We got some instruction on how to rappel and then we started down on at a time. We went down 2 sections of about 100 feet each with everyone regrouping after the first section. The first rappel was through part of the falls and we got very wet. The second section was next to the falls, but on dry rock. We each took our turn going down with one guide at the top and one at the bottom giving us instruction if we were needing to go left or right as we descended the rock wall. The rappel down was very exciting and everyone had a good time. We finished the hike down. The total distance travelled was 5 miles according to the Garmin. We had lunch back at the park restaurant before heading back. We spent the rest of the day relaxing at the resort. There was a pig roast on the beach to celebrate St. Patrick's day tonight. It was all very good with pork, tortillas and everything you could want to make a pork taco. There was also grilled corn and a desert. It was a perfect ending to another great day in Belize.
