Our morning began with a stop at a recommended cafe for breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs, toast, orange juice and Americano coffee. The cafe had large baskets of oranges everywhere. When our juice was served we learned why, since it was fresh squeezed. Also the toast was served with melted cheese on it. Sitting outside enjoying this meal was a great way to begin our day.

Our touring began with a stop at Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Zeus which are located within a park. We also visited St. Fontini's Orthodox Church.

Visiting the Acropolis was our next destination. It is on a Hill high above the city of Athens. The walk up is quite steep with the paths made of gravel, stone, rock and some pavement. Caution was necessary since much of the path is uneven and the stone is slippery in spots. The climb to the top was well worth it. The views and sights were spectacular. We saw the ruins of the Dionysus Theatre, the Temple of Nikke, the Parthenon, and the Temple of Athena. These structures were built between 447 and 438 B.C. And have restoration projects going on now.

In the afternoon we visited the Plaka neighborhood. It has a village feel with narrow cobblestone streets lined with tiny shops selling jewelry, clothes, shoes, and ceramics. Mixed in among these shops are sidewalk cafes and family run taverns.

The second neighborhood we walked through was Monastiraki which is a lively flea market neighborhood in the old town of Athens, Greece. The shops sell soaps, handmade sandals, and souvenir's of all kinds. The surrounding streets are crammed with traditional taverns and more restaurants. There are restaurants and taverns everywhere in Athens and they are all crowded with customers.

Another stop today was at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Annunciation which is the church of the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece. from our hotel balcony we are less than a block away and are able to enjoy the hourly chiming of the cathedral bells.

Tonight's dinner were again tasty choices. We selected a pork gyro and pork souvlaki Along with an Alfa Hellenic Lager and a coke. Our waiter then treated us with a shot of mustika which was quite tasty and a great way to end another good meal.

As always, enjoy the blog with the photos. Food sounds delicious. Have you tried ouzo yet? If you like anise, you might like it, but just a couple sips. Don't lose each other and enjoy!!!!
