I am currently compiling my plan for a tour of South America and Central America. Its in the early stages, so any advice would be great. cheers
Like I say I want to see South America and parts of Central America.
Leave Glasgow for Argentina
Argentina into Chile
North towards the Andes, maybe into Bolivia
Peru next
Then I would like to see Brazil and Colombia before heading to Guatemala and hopefully Jamaica.
The advice i need is, well basically anything you have for a trip like this.
Is it feasable?
anything i have missed?
Anything i SHOULD miss?
Pros and cons?
Potential pitfalls?
You know what i mean, anyone who has taken a trip like this or parts of it, I'm sure you have loads of information for me. Any links would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks folks
Reply to this I definitely would not miss out on Bolivia if I were you. Chile's great too (with places like Con-Con)...
Reply to this I'm a little partial to Argentina personally:-) A suggestion to travel is to go from Buenos Aires to Mendoza and then take a bus to Santiago. The bus from Mendoza to Santiago is very short. (I never did this trip but I have heard good things about it). Another idea is to go further south in Argentina to Bariloche and cross the Andes into Chile. Bariloche is definitely worth it. Hope this helps!
Reply to this ALL information helps. Its such a huge continent and there is so much to see. Anything that narrows it down or gives me ideas is much appreciated.
cheers
Reply to this I made a trip like that two years ago. From here, Chile, to Mexico by land. You don't have to miss the trip in boat from Cartagena, Colombia to Panama. Is really amazing... you will sail by the San Blas Islands.... is like the islands on Tom y Jerry Cartoons... I took this picture
Reply to this That looks excellent. Great pic....... maybe i should brush up on my swimming technique before i go. I'm a bit of a sinker.....
Reply to this Having spent a year and a half in Chile and flying back in May to see my fiance I would encourage you to spend more time in Argentina than Chile.
Argentina is alot cheaper and better food. The wine is equal to if not better than Chile BUT if you are looking for a bit of recovery from hard country rest up a bit in Santiaigo, Chile. Use trans VIP bus service to get around if you arrive via airport or find the (blue colored bus that leads you to the metro). DO NOT TAKE ANY TAXI FROM THE AIRPORT!
No matter what any guide book tells you Santiaigo can be seen in 8 hours. Any longer you will just see your money disapper.
