I will try not to offend any resident of the SA countries, but here you go:
Argentina is very special SA country, and as Brazil differs from the rest of the countries.
Chile has it's charms, but often is aside main tracks and can be dull because of the vast deserts between the cities.
Andean countries - Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador, maybe even Colombia have something in common - Inka heritage and three geographical zones - coast, Andes and la selva (Amazonian forest).
Venezuela is also appealing, and Paraguay can be very pleasant if you knaw what to do and where to go.
Argentina is maybe safest (it depends), but provides european splendor in SA. Bolivia is now in political turmoil, nobody can predict future events.
My heart would say - Peru, but it does not mean that you can't have good time in Argentina or Venezuela.
My advice for you is to chooze what you want (your kind of experience), buy some guidebooks and make a serious itinerary (keep in mind to keep a good ratio of travelling from place to place and days for sightseeing). Do not rush!
Have a good time,
