yes, maybe i'm off my rocker, but my no-plan-plans are to travel over land from south brazil to southern california (home) on my very first backpacking trip (alone no less). i'll spend 3-4 weeks in brazil before i set off going the southerly route (argentina, chile, peru, you get the idea).

being on a limited budget (consequently limiting length of time & sites to see), what "MUST SEE" points of interest along the way would the members of travellerspoint suggest & how much time do you think it'll take? i'm interested in all types of experiences, but being a budding photographer, those points of interest that are particularly photographically spectacular would be preferred. i'm also a big sun worshipper & love to relax on the beach so a nice sampling of surf, turf & ruins/architectural mysteries would be appreciated.

i'm leaving for brazil on dec. 27. how many places can i expect to explore/visit with a mar. 12 return date? any advisories for/against any particular region? am i being delusional/too ambitious thinking i could make it all the way up to panama city over land/sea?

if there any travelers who would like to show me the ropes of shoestring budget backpacking along the way (or those who might be interested in a similar route???), please reach out!

Well,
I'm brazilian, and probably I can help you with some tips. But, I need to know where do you arrive?
I live in Sao Paulo, and here, I know everything...

Well, some places in Brazil are REALLY incredible let's summarize someones:

1) Rio de Janeiro: Corcovado, Bread of Sugar, Christ Redemmer and the beaches; Copacabana, Ipanema... At Night go to Samba in Lapa
2) São Paulo: Big City, you can see the 4th bigger city of the world, Ibirapuera Park, Paulista Avenue, Ipiranga Museum, Cathedral of Sé...
3) Florianópolis: IN south of Brazil... Beautiful beaches and beatiful people
4) Bonito: I thing it isn't in your rote, but for a photografer I guess you will LOVE (search some picture about this city in internet)
5) Iguaçu Falls - Wonderful... in Foz do Iguaçu you can find excelent hostels.

Well... you can ask me everything you need!
Regards
Débora
