My girlfriend and me will be in Peru doing December, and we would love to do the Inca Trek.
Since I’ve been in the area before, and I generally have some problems adapting to the altitude, and therefore we would love to arrive in Cuzco, and don’t plan going before I fell ready.
Unfortunately these Inca Trail Trek Permit has become restricted, and we wouldn’t like to have a fixed arrangement since I might not fell ready to go.
Does anybody know if we would have a hard time getting trekking permits within a few days?
Reply to this Hi, I would be very surprised if you managed to get one at a few days notice. Once the permit is sold it cannot be onsold to someone else if the first person cancels. Most of the reputable companies sell out of permits a couple of months ahead at least. My suggestion would be to decide how long you think you would need to adjust to the altitude, add a bit more, and book accordingly.
The trek and MP are well worth the effort of getting there but as it is usually a oncer it is worth taking the time to make sure you're in good health doing it. Don't worry about having to rush on the Trail, the company I went with stressed a number of times the main thing was to go slow if you felt you needed to. Going slow you have more time to look around anyway :-)
There's also plenty of things to do at a snail's pace in and around Cusco while you adjust.
Hope that helps.
