Rio de Janeiro to Iquitos - best way?

Want to fly from Rio to Iquitos...

I\'m going to be in Rio de Janeiro for a couple of weeks in November, and want to get to Iquitos to meet a friend. It looks as though I have to fly to Lima first and then get a connecting flight to Iquitos - anyone know if thats the case?

Also on LAN.com, the flight from Rio to Lima is 18 hours via Santiago! Surely thats not the case?

This is getting more confusing by the day! THanks in advance 😊 Reply to this

Other option is to get to Manaus, than to Tatabinga or something like that (on the 3 country border with Columbia and Peru). I think both Manaus and Tatabinga you can reach by plane as well as by boat. From there you can take a really nice boat ride on the amazon to Iquitos, takes you around 2 days. Buy a hammock and see the amazon passing by!!!
Otherwise Lima is your only option. Reply to this

Hi thanks for the quick reply! As much as I'd love to go to Manaus and head down the Amazon, I don't have the time in my schedule to get up there unfortunately. So how long would the flight from Rio to Lima be? I guess I would aim to spend a day or so in Lima and then fly to Iquitos to start my exploration of Peru. Will I be missing any obvious stops near Lima by doing that? Reply to this
