How to get to Iquazu Falls and what to take in en route from Buenos Aires onward to Bolivia.
Traveling into Buenos Aires and hope to travel onward to Bolivia taking in Cordoba and Salta with possible side venture to Atacama but really want to see Iquazu! Any suggestions on a possible route?
Reply to this Did the same thing last year. Took a 15hour bus straight to Iguazu, stayed on the Argentine side (heaps of hotels, hostels etc...), then after three days there I missioned it to Salta with a couple of connections (all pre arranged in the Iguazu bus station). Spent 5 days in Salta with a one day side trip up into the Jujuy high altitude Antiplano type place with some salt flats there. From Salta went by bus again to Humahuaca (on the way to the Bolivia border crossing) for a couple of interesting days walking and craft shopping amongst the 7 coloured hills. Took the bus from Humahuaca to Villazon at the Bolivian border, and then finally a great train ride from Villazon to Uyuni, where you have the option to jump off to Chile and the Atacamas during a Salar de Uyuni tour (well woth it!).
Good Luck with your travel plans,
Cassels
Reply to this Wow that sounds fantastic! Any recollection what the connections were en route to Salta so i can check them out in my trusty guidebook? Also any more info on the Villazon Uyuni train journey? Appetite whetting stuff!
Thanks for responding,
Ann
Reply to this It was a pretty long time ago actually but if you get hold of a Lonely Planet it has info about the Villazon -Uyuni Train whiich I believe only left a couple of times a week. As for the stops along the bus ride, I don't really recall, but I think there was one stop at which you could jump into Paraguay to check out some Jesuit Missions, otherwise the places seemed rather ordinary. Salta is really nice tho!
Good Luck
