I'm spending 8 days in Peru. Which places are a must to visit during this time, and how to get there?

Hello,
I will be spending 8 days in Peru and would like to know what are the places I should visit within this time. My wish list includes Cuzco, Machu Pichu, Puno, Ica, and Arequipa.

I know these places are far away from each other, and I might not have a chance to visit all in 8 days. I do however want to enjoy this trip and see all I can. I will be taking flights from Lima to Cuzco. Do you have any suggestions??..

Thanks

I spent about three weeks traveling in Peru last year and have a few suggestions. You will need to spend at least 3-4 days doing the Cuzco/Machu Pichu thing. There are several great sites to see around Cuzco (In theSacred Valley). Ollantaytambo, sacsayhuaman and Pisac are the most notable, but there are a few others. You can buy a pass to all of them in Cuzco.
As far as the rest of your time there, seeing lake Titikaka is probably your best bet. Puno itself is not that great, but the floating reed islands are interesting. As far as Arequipa, it was my favorite city in Peru due to its tranquility, but beyond seeing the frozen inca girl and a few other museums there is not a whole lot to do, just relax and that is probably not in your time frame. You can also take a boat from puno to some islands in lake titikaka and stay the night there with a family. That was pretty cool. You can book that in Puno when you get there.
As far as Ica, I was not a fan and it is out of the way for you.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions. Tchau. Reply to this

peru has many diferent places to visit but one of the most wonderful places to visit is cusco because there are machupicchu, sacred valley, south valley, etc, if you need some information about cusco and its festivities you can make click here:

Thanks for all that information you have given me. I will actually spend 4 days in Cuzco, and then will go to Puno and lake Titicaca. I understand there is a train that goes from Cuzco to Puno that leaves on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The whole trip seem to take 10 hrs. I know you can also take a bus. Do you think the train trip is worth it, or would it be better to take a flight or the bus. I have counted on spending that whole day just traveling to Puno.

Also how much time would you spend in lake Titicaca? It seems you can see all 3 islands in one day, but would also like to see if I can stay with a family like you said.

In terms of hotels / hostels, is it easy to just show up there and get a room, or is it better to make reservation ahead of time? Once I get to Cuzco, I'm going to do Machu Pichu the day after... so where would it be better to spend a night?? Is Aguas Calientes the best place? also what do they charge on average?

well, 4 days are sufficient to stay in cusco, here in cusco you could visit some places like machupicchu ( first opcion), sacred valley, city tours(sacsayhuaman, qenqo, pucapucara, tambomachay) or sacred south, etc.

after that you could travel to puno and visit its lakes like amantani, uros, etc; two days are sufficient.

you could take bus or trail; i think in bus is more confortable to travel because on the road you can see the landscape and many things more (travel.peru.com).
In terms of hotels / hostels, is it easy to just show up there and get a room. is not necesary to make reservations, for more information you can see:
